Sort of a family-friendly, lighthearted Promethean story, John Badham's Short Circuit pleases audiences by blending together two popular movie types of the era, the sci-fi adventure comedy Back to the Future, Explorers, etc. and charming fish-out-of-water films like E.T. Assuming one has the ability to suspend a little disbelief, the results are quite fun. But there is more to the film if one chooses to look for it. The Number 5 character is affable and funny enough that a half hour into the film the audience regards "him" as being as human as any of his fleshy co-stars, in effect making the film a parable for racial and/or religious oppression, though it's doubtful many would go so far as to give the filmmakers credit for such a deep and meaningful metaphor when they have essentially adapted a basic storyline that is anything but novel. On the whole, the movie has a generous amount of genuine laughs and, even though it's sometimes laid on a little thick, enough heart to make it likeable for just about anyone.

    Number 5 is alive!

    Short Circuit a cute movie with a robot Number 5 also known as Johnny 5 this is a really good movie and very educational it teaches you about robots and techiolngly and its funny you can't help but to laugh at this movie even the part when the robot yells No Disasemble!!! its really funny i like it

    Good family movie

    I'm happy to see this movie is still around as I think it is a movie the family will like. With the way movies are these days, it's nice to know you can always fall back on a good 80's classic.

    the most awesome movie ever!!

    This movie was the coolest ever. This is one of those movies that you cant stop watching over and over. Its that good! This is a definate family movie. You won't be disappointed when you buy it! This is also one movie that teaches lessons in technology and robotics!

    Cute

    Well, it was an awesome movie when I was five or six, but now it's just cute. I think it's a fun movie that's good to watch when you just wanna have a couple of laughs, but I wouldn't say that it makes you think. The kids'll like it a lot, though.
