Overview

Shrek, the story of an ogre who learns to accept himself with the help of a beautiful princess with a secret and his faithful friend Donkey, became one of the biggest hits in Hollywood history. This release compiles Shrek, Shrek 2, and the direct-to-video Shrek 3-D. All three films contain vocal work by Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz. Although these titles are available individually, this set presents the most cost-effective way to acquire all three.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
For the Shrek fan who wants everything in one package, this box set offers all three Shreks to date, plus a bonus disc of irreverent features -- such as a Shrek burp-along -- and segments chronicling Shrek 2’s production. The first film is a wickedly funny kick-in-the-Disney love story, based on William Steig's book, that topped the box office in 2001. The equally entertaining and commercially successful sequel adds Antonio Banderas as the suave and swashbuckling Puss in Boots. Brimming with visual and verbal delights, they invite repeated viewings to catch all the in-jokes and pop-culture references. But at the heart of the Shrek franchise is the heartwarming fairy-tale romance between Shrek, the repulsive, grumpy, but good-hearted ogre, and Princess Fiona, whose ravishing appearance is also deceiving. You have to go back to The Princess Bride to find such a magical, family-friendly story of true love. Linking both films is Shrek 3-D, the home-video version of the 15-minute Shrek 4-D attraction at the Universal Studios theme park. Here, the original voice cast -- Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, and John Lithgow -- reprise their signature roles as the ghost of Lord Farquaad rudely interrupts Shrek and Fiona's honeymoon to kidnap the bride. A wild chase by carriage, raft, and dragon-back ensues, and the 3-D effects (glasses included) are state-of-the-art.
