Overview

In the series opener, 12-year-old Ricky Ricky Schroder arrives at his unsuspecting father's mansion to introduce himself and move in. His mother had placed him in military school after she remarried and thought Ricky would be in the way. Ricky's father, Edward Stratton III Joel Higgins, epitomizes the phrase "overgrown child," never having taken responsibility for anything in his lifetime. His lifestyle is that of a 10-year-old; he has video games and a scale freight train in the living room, and needless to say, he's surprised to discover that his seven-day marriage produced a son. After originally sending Ricky back to boarding school, Edward changes his mind and brings his son home. Throughout the five seasons of Silver Spoons, many changes occur in the Stratton household: Ricky becomes a carefree, fun-loving teenager while Edward becomes a responsible, loving father. He simultaneously courts and marries his personal assistant, Kate Summers Erin Gray, who provides both Edward and Ricky with a loving, stable environment. The shows were filled with quality family entertainment while combining messages about values, morals, and the problems of growing up in the 1980s with touching moments. The set includes all 22 episodes from 1982-83's first season.
