Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Although it took 62 years for Sister Wendy Beckett to begin her entertainment career, she's made up for lost time by becoming one of the most beloved "stars" in the PBS firmament. A Carmelite nun, Sister Wendy has spent much of her life in religious contemplation. During her solitary time, she's become an avid art student (she has 15 books to her credit), and hosts a show on BBC that Entertainment Weekly has affectionately called, "the only known antidote to Baywatch." This four-DVD set collects every Sister Wendy episode from her acclaimed Story of Painting series, plus Sister Wendy's Grand Tour, Sister Wendy's Odyssey, and Sister Wendy's Pains of Glass. Episodes range from a fascinating tour of the cave paintings at Lascaux to the Renaissance masterpieces of Michelangelo and Raphael and the Surrealist works of Salvador Dalí. A host of supplemental features includes an interactive art gallery, with pop-up notes on the artists and their work and an interview with Sister Wendy.

if she weren't a nun and a woman i would marry her

Sister Wendy's books and tapes made me love art and nuns with English accents. At first it's weird to listen to a nun talk about paintings of lusty, naked woman. But when you get past that you learn a lot.
