The 5.1-channel Dolby Digital audio track is also sharp. The upbeat music moves well through the entire range of the speakers, and gunshots reverberate powerfully from the front speakers. A Dolby Digital French-language track is also available. On the downside, this DVD is a bare-bones release that lacks any notable extra features. It does contain the theatrical trailer in a decent widescreen transfer (along with some laughable recommendations -- Metro and Nothing to Lose -- that have little in common with this film), plus English subtitles and 23 chapter cues. While the Six Days, Seven Nights DVD is technically impressive, it would be improved immensely with better supplemental materials. Even a simple "on location" featurette or fluffy cast interviews would help considerably.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
Unfairly, Six Days, Seven Nights got much of its attention because prying minds doubted that Anne Heche could convincingly play the heterosexual lead in a romantic comedy, having just come out as Ellen DeGeneres's girlfriend. That question seems ridiculous in retrospect. Heche and Ford are charming as the stranded duo who fall for each other between bouts of contrived bantering and being chased by pirates. Concessions to silliness aside, the film is more enjoyable than it has any right to be, due in part to director Ivan Reitman's facility for coaxing natural comedy from his stars. The Hawaiian island setting provides good escapism too. Ultimately unsuccessful -- the 75-million-dollar box office was rather small for a summer release starring one of Hollywood's most bankable men -- Six Days, Seven Nights is as fun as it needs to be for a frivolous romp with few ambitions.

    Super Movie

One of the best comedies in recent years. A gem that is bound to endure. Acting is out of this world. Ford and Heche perfect, and like Tracy and Hepburn should do many more comedies together. Chemistry is fantastic, very natural. Film does not fade at all after many viewings-a true sign of greatness. Ivan Reitman's directing is of the highest level of excellence. Only complaint is excessive use of God's name in vain but otherwise a ten plus, a must have.

Great movie,,, deeper than some might suggest

This is a great movie; the interactions between Harrison Ford and Anne Heche are just wonderful. This must have been what it was like for viewers of the Thin Man series in the 30's, and with Hepturn and Tracy in their movies together. The chemistry between Heche and Harrison is simply outstanding. I think that the signature moment in this movie is when Harrison Ford is very upset and thrashes around in the bushes to quell his anger a little. At that point, Heche tells him that she is counting on him to get them out of the situation (being stranded on the desolute island) and if he loses it, she will really have a hard time. It reflects that the otherwise joking around and upmanship between them is just a divergence and they really have the man-woman relationship stuff right, and that she needs him in spite of the put-downs. This was a fun movie, it obviously wasn't going to win any Academy awards; but filmakiing is really about this kind of movie also. There is also no meanmess here, no really gratuitous violence and as per above I think that Heche and Harrison Ford really click together. In fact, Ford's current girlfriend Calista Flockhart (who I also simply adore), has a lot in common with Heche, small waiflike, basically soft-spoken, etc. So, he seems to be naturally at ease with these kinds of women. Buy this movie or at least rent it at your video store.
