Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
The critically acclaimed HBO series created by American Beauty screenwriter Alan Ball becomes more emotionally complex than ever with the 12 episodes of the 2004 season, which begins following the tragic death of Nate's wife, Lisa Lili Taylor. Nate Peter Krause, struggling mightily to cope with his loss and the jarring reality of single parenthood, turns for comfort to old flame Brenda Chenowith Rachel Griffiths, who's trying to get her own life in order. Lisa's family wants her cremated, but Nate wants to bury her in the desert, which takes some finagling to pull off. The second 2004 episode finds Nate quitting the family funeral parlor cold, as the rest of the Fishers try to get accustomed to George Sibley James Cromwell, the new husband of fragile family matriarch Ruth Frances Conroy. But it turns out George has his own mental health issues, including apocalyptic nightmares and invisible friends. Other plot threads running through the season involve the gradual re-acclimation to student life of Claire Lauren Ambrose following her abortion, the relationship issues faced by David Michael C. Hall and Keith Mathew St. Patrick, and the marital problems faced by Federico Freddy Rodriguez after his wife learns he's cheated on her. The year's last episode is a cliff-hanger like none other, involving Nate and Brenda. At a time when most dramatic series are showing their age, Six Feet Under continues to surprise viewers with its cleverly developed story lines and evolving characters.

    Love it!

I love every season and am now a proud owner of the series. Six Feet Under's characters are as endearing as they are dysfunctional. I enjoy watching the dynamics change between the characters within the family and how the storylines evolve. As dysfunctional as they may be, I don't think they are too far off from the average American family trying to live their lives each day and find meaning in life. Very creative, fun, but serious show!

    Really Beyond Words

There has never been a better dramatic series made for television. I cannot recommend anything I have ever watched, more. Get the whole series and start with Year 1 Episode One and sit back.
