"The #1 Thriller of All Time" comes to DVD as part of Hollywood Pictures' Collector's Edition series. Fans of M. Night Shyamalan's ingenious supernatural story will revel in the 1.85:1 widescreen (enhanced for 16 x 9 televisions) format and 5.1 Surround Sound which fully capture the intricate details of the film and tangible paranormal presence. What makes this DVD especially enjoyable, however, is the multitude of behind-the-scenes features, many of which are narrated by Shyamalan and other key crew members. Included are a French-language track; a "Storyboard to Film Comparison" of the anniversary dinner scene; cast and crew interviews; a fascinating "Music and Sound Design" presentation that illustrates how the incredibly creepy background track was created; and "Reaching the Audience," an explanation of how word of mouth made this movie the cultural phenomenon it became. Also included are "Rules and Clues," a guide to the hints threaded throughout the movie before its explosive, surprise ending; four deleted scenes, one of which is an extended finale; and an interview with Shyamalan in which he talks about his background and how it affected his filmmaking. Theatrical and TV trailers as well as cast and crew biographies round things out. Finally, viewers should click on the beribboned box for a real treat -- Shyamalan's first horror film, "Nightmare on Old Gulf," which was written, produced, directed, and starred in by the film phenom when he was 11 years old.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
A throwback to old-fashioned fright films, The Sixth Sense eschews gimmicky effects in favor of intriguing storytelling, sympathetic characters, and evocative atmospherics that tingle viewers' spines. Bruce Willis gives one of his most understated and effective performances to date as a child psychologist whose career goes into decline after he's shot by a former patient. His latest case involves a troubled grade-school boy (Haley Joel Osment, in an Oscar-nominated performance) who confesses, "I see dead people" -- a claim the psychologist comes to believe is true. Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan (Wide Awake) wisely makes Osment the story's focal point, allowing us to see the restless spirits that visit him, to feel the terror that besets him. The scenes between Osment and Willis are handled subtly, and Shyamalan's shattering surprise denouement blindsides even the most observant viewers. Easily the creepiest ghost story in recent memory, The Sixth Sense is guaranteed to stand your hair on end.
All Movie Guide - Jason Clark
A successful update of ghost stories and thrillers that forego gore and violence to create suspense, this breakthrough film by writer/director M. Night Shyamalan reconfirmed star Bruce Willis' credibility as a leading man and as an actor, in his most sensitive screen work to date. Newcomer Haley Joel Osment won heavy acclaim (and an Oscar nomination at age 11) for his quietly studied portrayal of a haunted youngster, and Toni Collette shines as his working-class mother who doesn't understand his strange abilities. The film is too moody by half, and too reliant on its ending (which, admittedly, is quite well-done), but the director's perceptive study of young people's fears and the consequences of death is highly admirable. A giant summer hit that nobody anticipated (it was rumored that Disney, its distributor, originally planned it for a fall release until they realized what they had), Sense rejuvenated the suspense thriller in a way no one had seen in ages. Additionally, the film garnered six major Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and two for Shyamalan.

This is a movie that you have to watch twice. The first time that you see it, you wonder what is going on until the end of it. Once you see the ending then the whole movie becomes clear and you will think it is a good movie. I love psychological thrillers. So give it a chance. It is really worth watching---twice!

the sixth sense is one of my favorites. the first time i saw it is when i was about 10 yrs. old. boy, does this movie scare the heck out of you! it is both disturbing and emotional at the same time. the ending of this movie really turned me off. i could not believe Mr. Dr. Malcolm Crowe was DEAD the whole time! well, i recommend this DVD to anyone who lost a loved one, and is hurting. because, this movie will comfort you to let you know that your loved one is watching over you, and that you're not alone, and that you will get through this.

This is a cleverly written tale with the least expected plot twists and the best ending I've ever seen. It's one of those rare movies that you can see over and over again and still see something new each time. Don't make the mistake of only watching this film once. There's too much of it that you'll miss without even realizing it.

I've Nerves of Steel. It was scary, but I luckily survived from all the scares. I loved this movie! Ever since I watched the film at my friends house, they were always thinking about living dead people behind their shower curtains! THE SIXTH SENSE recommended to everyone! Trust me, once you watch it, you have to be addicted to it. Wonderful!

Now here is a movie that will never loose its touch.......How would u like to be a kid that could see dead people? Pretty freeky huh? . Bruce Wills and Hailey Joel Osment really fit together. I mean this movie really made u think ya know.? Whe you saw the kids sights and fellings twrd seeing these ghosts it was rather....scarry! When I saw this movie with my friend and there were three highschool guys sitting right infront ov us. The most terrifying part in this movie was when: Hailey Joel Osment walked out after he had heard somthin outside his room, he went out and saw this kid (who was dressed like he came from the sixties maybe even sevnties)said to him is ''Hey I know where my dad keeps his gun'' and when he turned around half of his head was missing! The guys in front of us jumped 3 feet into the air! Funny sight if you were there. . Anways when you watch this secret you realize one Important secret that will be explained at the very end. But I will never give it away cause you have to get this movie. The Best time to show this movie is at a sleepover and right after talking about ghosts and other scarry things.. .

This is without a doubt the scariest movie I have seen since the first time I watched Nightmare on Elm Street. The thing I liked most about this movie is that it isn't the average horror movie that you would get in this day in age. They did not rely on spooky monsters or crazy special effects like many of the other films of this genre usually do. This seems to be a simple story about a little boy, portrayed by a wonderful child star, who is struggling to deal with seeing dead people. A psychiatrist, brillantly played by Bruce Willis, struggles to help the little boy who reminds him of one that he was not able to help a few years earlier. This is a great movie, with a surprise twist that I am sure everyone has heard about. The things the boy goes through and the connection that the two stars make together make this movie more of a drama rather than a horror film. I strongly recommend this movie.

This movie is one of the most chilling movies I've ever seen. I really loved it. It wasn't the most scariest movies I've ever seen, but I liked it.

I found this movie very enjoyable. The actors all did a great job. And the story was very good. It is best to not know the ending when going to watch this film (So I will not spoil it). Watch it and ask no one about it, you will be pleased. How else do you review a movie without giving away the surprises. One quick note is that I would not classify this as a horror film. more like a suspense. If you are looking to be scared out of your seats....this movies is not for you.

I FINALLY saw this movie and thought this was an awesome movie! You will never guess how it turns out, and don't let anyone tell you. Let it be a surprise. See it, but I would watch it during the day if I were you.

I really liked this movie. Aside from the Star Wars Saga, it may well be my favorite. Because it's from M. Night Shyamalan, there is a twist. It's very amusing to sit down and watch the movie with your family and try to guess what it is with them. I also recommend rewatching it to catch all the clues that you missed. I really enjoyed the acting of the main characters; they were very well done and well rounded. There was also some humor in it, so the themes of the movie weren't all dark.

The Sithe Sense embodies the qualities in a movie we rarely see in modern cinema. A well thought out story plot and a visually stunning film lends more to the craftmanship of M. Night Shyamalan then to the industry that produced it. Bruce Willis gives a precise performance next to the suttle presense of Haley Joel Osment. The backdrop of Philadelphia sets an erie tone to this amazing story. The speed at which the story is told is not fast by any means but what it lacks in pace it makes up for in suspense. The Sixth Sense is a movie to own. Its timeless feel and brilliant performances will make for repeat viewing again and again.

Haley's hottnes and being a great actor really put the SIXTH in SIXTH SENSE...ahah gotta love this movie...I won't say anything so I won't spoil it!!

I had heard so much about this movie that I finally got around to renting it. What a bore! It took all of my energy just to stay awake The ''plot-twist'' was so obvious to me that the ending held no surprise...only that Crowe had been such a dummy! I mean, look around you man! Anyway, if you want a scary psychological movie, go rent ''The Haunting''. I'm talking about the earlier version with Julie Harris and Claire Bloom. Now THERE is a scary movie!

If you haven't seen the sixth sense you half to see it. It is(to me)by far the scariest mobie i have seen. It gives me goosebumps everytime i watch it. The little boy plays his part so convinsingly. And I never expected the ending. I was shocked. But I'm not going to ruin it for you. Way to go M. Night Shyamalan.

Well, ok I love all of M. Night's other movies, but this was the latest that I saw. It was only ok. It was relitivly scary, whith good actors, but the story was just....weird. I'm not sure how to describe it, really. The Sixth Sense was really different. I would reccomend it to any M. Night fans, but to everyone else, I'd say, rent it, watch it once, then forget about it.

It was great. Just great. Haley Joel Osment was perfect. Bruce Willis was wonderful. I just loved it. It still makes you jump the second time around. It's probably the best horror type movie I've seen, but it's not gory blood and guts it has meaning and suspense. I did not see the ending coming. During the last scene, I guessed about five times before I figured it out. It's a must-see.

You need to see this film. It's a classic. You'll be totally captivated the entire time.

The is certainly the best movie I have ever seen. I dont think I will find a movie that will match this one. This movie made me jump, laugh, and shiver in my seat. It made me feel the exact emotions that the little boy was feeling in the movie. I think the movie was done very well. I could probably watch the movie ten times in a row and still enjoy it. I would recomend this movie to just about any audience, but just as a warning, it will give you the creeps. Overall, I gave this movie five stars.

I stumbled upon this movie when I was watching a baseball game--I wanted something to watch in between innings...this is the greatest movie ever! You never knew what is going to happen and the ending caught me by surprise! Anyone who loves suspense, freaky, and scary movies...this one is for you!

After watching this I expected to see more of the dead ghosts that the disturbed little boy could see. I got scared and couldn't sleep afraid that something might pop out of the closet or something like the Boogeyman (which is coming to theaters with Barry Watson who plays Matt on the show 7th Heaven of the WB channel). M. Night is a talented director and can scare us easily.

I see dead people... Bruce Willis. He's dead the whole time. Only the kid can see him. That's the twist. Now you don't have to waste your time or money. You're welcome.
