Overview

"I see a great DVD!" is what viewers are likely to say about the feature-packed Hollywood Video's Collector's Edition Series DVD of The Sixth Sense. The disk presents the film in a 1.85:1 widescreen format specially enhanced for 16x9 televisions. The soundtrack, in 5.1 Surround Sound, practically roars off the disk, adding a special jolt to the sudden shudders and shocks of the film. But what really makes the disk stand out is the roster of special features included on it. These include a storyboard to film comparison, biographies of the actors and filmmakers, deleted scenes from the film, a conversation with Director M. Night Shyamalan, and several others. Perhaps the most fascinating feature, however, is called "Rules and Clues." It concerns how the filmmakers used certain objects and scenes in the film to plant clues as to the eventual twist ending. It is almost guaranteed to have viewers bemusedly nodding their heads at the wealth of clues that were placed in plain sight, only to be ignored in favor of concentrating on the movie's riveting plot. Like the movie itself, this DVD will keep viewers in their seats until the very end.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
A throwback to old-fashioned fright films, The Sixth Sense eschews gimmicky effects in favor of intriguing storytelling, sympathetic characters, and evocative atmospherics that tingle viewers' spines. Bruce Willis gives one of his most understated and effective performances to date as a child psychologist whose career goes into decline after he's shot by a former patient. His latest case involves a troubled grade-school boy Haley Joel Osment, in an Oscar-nominated performance who confesses, "I see dead people" -- a claim the psychologist comes to believe is true. Writer-director M. Night Shyamalan Wide Awake wisely makes Osment the story's focal point, allowing us to see the restless spirits that visit him, to feel the terror that besets him. The scenes between Osment and Willis are handled subtly, and Shyamalan's shattering surprise denouement blindsides even the most observant viewers. Easily the creepiest ghost story in recent memory, The Sixth Sense is guaranteed to stand your hair on end.
All Movie Guide - Jason Clark
A successful update of ghost stories and thrillers that forego gore and violence to create suspense, this breakthrough film by writer/director M. Night Shyamalan reconfirmed star Bruce Willis' credibility as a leading man and as an actor, in his most sensitive screen work to date. Newcomer Haley Joel Osment won heavy acclaim (and an Oscar nomination at age 11) for his quietly studied portrayal of a haunted youngster, and Toni Collette shines as his working-class mother who doesn't understand his strange abilities. The film is too moody by half, and too reliant on its ending (which, admittedly, is quite well-done), but the director's perceptive study of young people's fears and the consequences of death is highly admirable. A giant summer hit that nobody anticipated (it was rumored that Disney, its distributor, originally planned it for a fall release until they realized what they had), Sense rejuvenated the suspense thriller in a way no one had seen in ages. Additionally, the film garnered six major Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and two for Shyamalan.

    Good Movie

This is a movie that you have to watch twice. The first time that you see it, you wonder what is going on until the end of it. Once you see the ending then the whole movie becomes clear and you will think it is a good movie. I love psychological thrillers. So give it a chance. It is really worth watching---twice!

    SCARY!

This movie is truly scary. It makes you honestly feel for those who can see the deceased, especially children. The movie is a must have in any movie collection. Every time I see this movie I get the chills. All I can say is, its a must see!

    The Sixth Sense Movie Review

I really liked this movie. Aside from the Star Wars Saga, it may well be my favorite. Because it's from M. Night Shyamalan, there is a twist. It's very amusing to sit down and watch the movie with your family and try to guess what it is with them. I also recommend rewatching it to catch all the clues that you missed. I really enjoyed the acting of the main characters; they were very well done and well rounded. There was also some humor in it, so the themes of the movie weren't all dark.

    Best Moive Evea

i first saw this movie when i was seven, so i didn't like it very much, and didn't make sence, but i finally watched it again when i was 10 and that time it totally made sence, and i loved it...like the girl who was killed by her mother that was a weird one...or the hung people at the school...it was awesome i'd rate it higher, but it only goes to five.

Probably the best horror movie yet

M.Night Shymalan's, The Sixth Sense, is simply a masterpiece. This movie goes straight to your heart... A beautifully scripted movie with an amazing ending...

    Oustanding

It was great. Just great. Haley Joel Osment was perfect. Bruce Willis was wonderful. I just loved it. It still makes you jump the second time around. It's probably the best horror type movie I've seen, but it's not gory blood and guts it has meaning and suspense. I did not see the ending coming. During the last scene, I guessed about five times before I figured it out. It's a must-see.

    Very Scary

This movie is one of the most chilling movies I've ever seen. I really loved it. It wasn't the most scariest movies I've ever seen, but I liked it.

    Hmm...

Well, ok I love all of M. Night's other movies, but this was the latest that I saw. It was only ok. It was relitivly scary, whith good actors, but the story was just....weird. I'm not sure how to describe it, really. The Sixth Sense was really different. I would reccomend it to any M. Night fans, but to everyone else, I'd say, rent it, watch it once, then forget about it.

    Ehhh...

This movie was ok. Many people absolutely loved it but not me because I figured out the ending in the beginning. I'm not sure if it's only me but I figure out almost every movie i watch without trying. Another movie i watched and figured out recently was "The Lakehouse".

    Appeals to the psychology-seeking mind

Honestly, this is a phenomenal creation, and young Osment acted flawlessly. Anyone who didn't appreciate this movie does not care for psychological thrillers or is just criticizing for the sake of doing so. The theme of "fear of uncertainty" is highly developed in this film and is of paramount importance to the psychological aspect of this movie.

Emotionally Captivating as well as Terrifying

The Sixth Sense is no ordinary thriller. That's the first thing that crossed my mind after viewing this movie. I am so tired of seeing ridiculous horror films with nothing but mindless blood and guts. This movie is not only the most eerie and terrifying I have ever seen, but it is also brilliant and deeply moving. The director makes everything seem so believable, I had trouble sleeping for weeks after I saw this. For those who enjoy a good thriller, or just enjoy a good movie, I highly recommend this movie!

the sixth sense is one of my favorites. the first time i saw it is when i was about 10 yrs. old. boy, does this movie scare the heck out of you! it is both disturbing and emotional at the same time. the ending of this movie really turned me off. i could not believe Mr. Dr. Malcolm Crowe was DEAD the whole time! well, i recommend this DVD to anyone who lost a loved one, and is hurting. because, this movie will comfort you to let you know that your loved one is watching over you, and that you're not alone, and that you will get through this.
