Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
You have to be careful not to oversell Slashers as it is not for all tastes, but if you have a penchant for dark comedies with rampant gore and a sick-o sense of humor, this is one terrific movie, an amazing achievement and a highly recommended piece of dementia. Maurice Deveraux directed, produced, wrote, and edited the film, shooting it on video (so as to appear to be a genuine TV show) in what appears to be one long shot from a single camera that follows the contestants around. Blood spurts, bowels disembowel, heads roll, and all manner of mayhem erupts on the screen as the contestants run for their lives from the giggling gaggle of mutant murderers. The depth of detail is impressive, and the sudden twists -- all action stops where there's a commercial break, for instance -- prevent inertia from setting in. It's howlingly funny but has enough genuine tension that the visceral thrills clench in the stomach for that wonderful uncomfortable feeling you get when you're watching something really scary. Charismatic Chainsaw Charlie should get his own movie. No kidding, Slashers is a successful parody that depicts an alternate reality that really isn't too far-fetched.
