Overview

This four-part British miniseries took place just after the fall of the Soviet Union. Going through Kremlin files, a team of Soviet bureaucrats discover that two KGB "sleepers," or secret agents, were assigned to England 20 years before, and had been there ever since. One of the sleepers was a shop steward in the North, the other an urban professional in London, and neither man had any desire to return to Moscow. The Kremlin dispatched an attractive female agent to retrieve the renegade duo, thereby setting the stage for a maddening procession of double-crosses, multi-pronged conspiracies, and other assorted mayhem perpetrated by both the "good" and the "bad" guys. As much a comedy as a thriller, Sleepers was broadcast over BBC2 in 1991.

    great spy dramedy

This is a semi-serious spoof of espionage capers. After the end of the Cold War, some KGB agents discover a top secret project from the 1960s which sent two sleeper agents to live in Britain. The sleepers have been undercover for so long, that they feel like true Brits now, and they do not want to go home. The KGB try to track them down, and along the way, both American and British spies join the pursuit, but they have no real clue of what's going on. Many petty squabbles take place, and the British spies in particular suffer from severe budget cuts.

The original program used to have Beatles songs, but due to music rights, they are omitted from the DVDs. Over the credits, there are funny scenes showing what happened to the various spies after the search ended.
