Twelve-year-old Taliesin (John-Paul Macleod) may be young, but he is nonetheless at a turning point in his life. His mother (Geraldine James) has left home, his father (Jonathan Pryce) isolates himself in his work as a farmer, and his brother is bitter and vengeful from his own pain. Then one auspicious day, Taliesin witnesses his piano teacher (Ian Bannen) use faith healing to apparently remedy a woman's bad back. He is inspired enough by this event to set out on his own spiritual journey, and he forms a society at his school based around his new faith. Soon that faith is tested, however, by his attempts to heal a classmate as well as his ailing mentor.
