All Movie Guide
This sinewy sequel to the 1993 original -- which made less than 20 million dollars at the box office but found a wide audience on home video and cable television -- recreates the gritty intensity without being a note-for-note remake or a mindless B-movie action romp. Tom Berenger slides into crack sniper's Thomas Beckett's muddy combat boots with ease, bringing a substantial amount of testosterone to the screen. Bokeem Woodbine, replacing Billy Zane as the hot-headed young partner on this mission (which takes them to the Balkans to eliminate a ruthless politician), is superb in a role that requires a bit of subterfuge beyond the expected. The production values are excellent, characterizations are convincing and the pace rarely lets up as smarmy evildoers are spotted through snipers' scopes left and right. The open-ended finale is a bit obvious (part three, anyone?), but, until then, it's fun to be back in the trenches with crack sniper Thomas Beckett and his rifle.

I did not know what to expect watching this sequel but I was delighted that it was just as good as the original. Tom Berenger reprises his role as Sgt. Beckett and he gets called (after his retirement) into service by the CIA to take out a renegade Bosnian general / PM who is responsible for ethnic cleansing. Beckett must team up with another Marine sniper who happens to be on death-row. Together they must go behind enemy lines, accomplish their mission and escape the clutches of enemy soldiers and snipers. Even though most of the actors are unknown, their acting was really good. This movie also featured a good story and good action sequences. Even though it contained a fairly predictable story, the movie is an above-average war film. If you liked '' Sniper 1'', ''Behind Enemy Lines'', and ''Enemy at the Gates'' you would like this one. The only disappointment is the lack of special features on this DVD (especially for its price). It would have been nice if it included a behind-the-scenes featurette, interviews of the cast, or deleted scenes but it contains none of these features. Consequently, I would give the movie 4 stars but the DVD features 2 stars.
