Overview

The Snoopy/Charlie Brown newspaper cartoon series burgeoned into a considerable empire for Charles M. Schulz, as it became an American phenomenon which spoke for an entire generation. In this feature-length animation, Lila, Snoopy's previous owner, writes him from the hospital and invites him to visit. Aided by his loyal bird companion Woodstock, he does. When she asks him to come back to live at her house, he agrees and goes back to tell Charlie Brown goodbye.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Michael Hastings
Focusing on the wordless antics of Snoopy and his pal Woodstock, the second full-length Peanuts feature may be more accessible for young children than other series entries, but there's still enough of the comic's trademark irreverent humor to keep adults interested for 80 minutes. Snoopy, Come Home follows the guidelines established by creator Charles Schultz and animator/director Bill Melendez: adult characters are never fully audible or visible; and the vocal parts of the Peanuts gang are performed entirely by children, giving the movie a ring of authenticity lacking in most family fare. Also in keeping with other late 1960s/early 1970s Schultz productions, Snoopy is peppered with light social commentary. The film's true pleasures come more from its casual, offhand vignettes -- such as the witty "No Dogs Allowed" number -- than from a maudlin subplot involving Snoopy's ailing former owner.
