Myers stars as Charlie Mackenzie, a San Francisco poet who meets the girl of his dreams, Harriet Michaels Nancy Travis when he stops to pick up some haggis for his parents at Meats of the World, a butcher shop where Harriet works. Although he's been neurotically commitment-phobic in the past dumping one girlfriend because she "smelled like soup", Charlie thinks Harriet could be the one. That is, until his mother May Brenda Fricker and cop best friend Tony Anthony LaPaglia begin to suspect that Harriet could be an axe-wielding serial killer who has butchered several husbands. Harriet's wacky sister Rose Amanda Plummer and her connection to several of the slayings make Charlie nervous, but he nevertheless pops the question, leading to an eventful honeymoon where all is revealed. Although So I Married an Axe Murderer 1993 earned less than $12 million at the U.S. box office, Myers hit upon the Peter Sellers-inspired formula of playing various supporting characters with this film, portraying Charlie's amusingly paranoid father Stuart. The actor repeated the trick with greater success in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 1997 and its sequel.

Years before playing multiple characters in the Austin Powers films, Mike Myers played two roles in So I Married an Axe Murderer. While the film's central story line of Myers' Charlie Mackenzie fearing he's involved with a serial killer is neither funny enough nor frightening enough to maintain much interest, every moment involving Charlie's father, Stuart (Myers again), is wonderfully funny. Saturday Night Live had honed Myers' skill at getting laughs with outrageous characters in five minute skits. In Stuart Mackenzie's conspiracy theories, intense Scottishness, occasional cruelty, and karaoke performing Myers wrings numerous unexpected laughs. The character stops the film cold, but because he is easily the most entertaining aspect of the film, and is usually onscreen for no longer than a few minutes at a time, no viewer should object. So I Married an Axe Murderer misses more often than it hits, but there are enough laughs to recommend that anyone give this mini-cult favorite a try.

    The funniest movie I've ever seen!

    I've seen this movie a dozen times and I still roll on the floor everytime I see it! It's not your average, everyday comedy -- it's got that perfect balance of silly, slapstick and outright ridiculousness! And Mike Myers is a genious. The way he goes from serious (well, somewhat) to silly and the different roles he plays, is remarkable. I think if another actor was chosen to play this part, the movie would not have been as funny. If you like ''There's Something About Mary'' and the Austin Powers' movies, you'll love this one too!

    LOVED IT!!!

    I loved 'So I Married An Axe Murderer'. I saw it only because it contained my favorite actor(Mike Myers),but it turned out to be a very good film.

    Hillarious...you will laugh the whole time!

    I absolutely loved this movie. It is a funny movie that will make you laugh over and over again. You will always remember the classic ''fat head'' scenes and lines. PURE GENIOUS! You have to see it!!!!

    So I Married An Axe Murderer...Pure Genius

    This movie in my mind is pure genius. In this film a man pursues a woman and later suspects her to be ''The Honeymoon Murderer.'' This comedy has great punch lines and just flat out great humor. Some might call it slap stick, but I call it art. I believe that this film deserves more credit than it was given. Mike Myers is a great comedy actor. He knows his way around. He can make you laugh until you cry in the two roles that he plays in this film. If I could, I would give this film 10 stars. Thank you for your time.
