Someone to Watch over Me

Overview

Ridley Scott's homage to the old-fashioned romantic thriller still radiates with style and class, and it is ideally suited to DVD treatment. Although embellished with only basic special features, the sound and particularly the look of this disc are second to none. Overview

Ridley Scott's homage to the old-fashioned romantic thriller still radiates with style and class, and it is ideally suited to DVD treatment. Although embellished with only basic special features, the sound and particularly the look of this disc are second to none. Scott's background in advertising means that he has always known how to shoot films with enormous visual flair, and the lush anamorphic picture on this disc is glorious, with the luxurious New York City apartment (in which much of the film is set) looking particularly stunning. Although the Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound audio track inevitably lacks some depth, it does nevertheless adequately convey the spicy dialogue and atmospheric selection of music. The additional features include the original theatrical trailer, talent files for Scott, Tom Berenger, and the other lead actors, and some relatively brief but enlightening production notes. Although probably destined to be forever overlooked in the Ridley Scott canon, Someone to Watch Over Me remains an excellent thriller, and this solid DVD should please discerning fans.
