Maggie Greenwald's atmospheric Songcatcher comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that, though not anamorphic, does preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track from various members of the cast and crew, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a theatrical trailer, and a music-only track that highlights the film's distinctive musical performances. The film may have failed to reach a wide portion of the moviegoing public, but this DVD does everything it can to rectify that situation.

Just finished watching this wonderful movie. If you like fine acting, wonderful music, history of music . . . .this is a movie for you!
Wonderful acting and top-notch a capella music. The best movie of the year!
This film renewed my passion for folk music by the outstanding performances of the cast and their obvious joy when performing the songs.
This movie is one of the best I've seen in a long long time. It's heart warming, sad and happy, lots of different emotions all at once. The music is great. I could watch this movie everyday for at least a year or two. Worth every penny!
This is not a teeny-bopper movie. This is a real story with real people.I loved the romantic costumes, the misty mountain and forest scenery, the rustic log cabins, and the hauntingly beautiful music and singing. Before I saw this movie I wasn't into folksy- mountain music at all, but I am really turned on about this!
I highly recommend this movie. Everyone I have introduced the movie to has just loved it. The music is amazing!
I think that this is one of the best movies to come out in a long time. The storyline was great. I think Maggie Greenwald did an excelent job of incorporating the scene between Jane Adams and her lover was so well considering things like that weren't even thought about during that time. Both the soundtracks are also great to listen to.
I've watched this movie several times now - the acting is excellent, the storyline interesting and fun and the music is sublime! Throw in the very sexy Aidan Quinn and his attraction to the fascinating Janet McTeer and you've got a fine little movie. I highly recommend.
An engrossing film - I actually got goosebumps just listening to the music and most of all, the voices that made the songs so special. This is a heartfelt piece of work and makes you want more just like it !
This is a fantastic movie!!! It is also a great piece of literature!!!!! The acting is great, the story is deep and wonderful, and the music/singing is beautiful.
I watched this on HBO recently just for something to do and was quickly caught up in the storyline. Excellent film, wonderful music, and the beautful NC mountains! I would highly recommend it.
Taj Mahal, Hazel Dixon - who could ask for more? Real mountain music. Hokey Hollywood ending.
I highly recommend this movie. It is a great movie and it is a great piece of literature. You will find it to contain many literay elements, the music is entertaining, and the role of 'Lilly', as a woman, is inspirational.
I absolutely loved this movie. Janet McTear and Aidan Quinn were excellent. I highly recommend it.
I am of Irish decent and loved the story of people I could actually identify with and hearing the old songs was like the roots of many Irish songs I have heard my entire life. The slow pace was engaging and the love stories were wonderful and real.
The lesbian love story was a bit of a turnoff. Not sure why the producers had to ruin a good story and GREAT music with this sop to modern mores. Interesting to see Pat Carroll for the first time in 40 years since her "Make Room for Daddy" days.
I highly recommend this.
This is a wonderful movie that lends itself to a group viewing and discussion of many factors - women in the academic world, education, opportunity, history, same sex relationships, etc. The caring of the main character for her work and the culture of the mountain people is interesting to watch develop. The music is outstanding. As a person from an Appalachian background, it was a treat to see my history and hear some of the songs I remembered my Granny singing. I had first seen this movie years ago and was delighted to find it again. I also have the soundtrack.
