The year is 1943 and Adolf Hitler's devastating march across Europe has resulted in the formation of the White Rose, an underground resistance movement born in Munich and dedicated to the fall of the Third Reich. Despite being one of the only female members in the White Rose movement, Sophie Scholl's conviction is strong and her will unbreakable. Eventually arrested by the Gestapo for distributing pamphlets on campus alongside her brother Hans, Sophie boldly maintains her ground by calling for freedom and personal responsibility and never once backing down even in the face of certain, inescapable death.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Steve Futterman
Conformity to a repressive government is a theme that has timeless significance. Based on true events, Sophie Scholl: The Final Days focuses on a young German student who, in the midst of World War II, expressed her opposition to the Nazi regime and paid for her defiance with her life. As portrayed in an impassioned performance by Julia Jentsch, the fearless 23-year-old Sophie finds herself in a battle of wits with a Nazi prosecutor, after her activities with the anti-Third Reich White Rose movement are made public. Scholl’s passion and keen intelligence make her a formidable foe, confounding the morally impotent Nazi officials. Making good on its title, director Marc Rothemund’s Oscar-nominated film concentrates on the trial and subsequent sentencing of this too-little-recognized -- at least in the U.S. -- heroine. Through detailed direction and vigorous performances, Scholl’s stirring story becomes as relevant today as it was six decades ago.

    A vital chapter in history

A riveting, electrifying performance by Julia Jentsch. Within the first two minutes, you fall in love with her as she showcases a vibrant personality, full of life and energy and spirit. She only becomes more amazing as the film unfolds. A must-have for all history buffs, and I also recommend that you read the book "Sophie Scholl and the White Rose."

    HAUNTING AND COURAGEOUS

When i saw this movie, i have to admit that i did not really know who sophie scholl was. I heard bits and pieces about her but after watching the movie and reading the history book on her, i was deeply moved and saw a piece of wwii history that was never really mentioned. That not all germans were against the nazis. There were some like her who were against the madness of hitler and his nazis, there were some who believed that all jewish people had a right to exist and to be free to live in this world like anyone else. We should have more people like sophie scholl fighting against evil like she did. You have got to watch this movie!
