Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Season 3 for Matt Stone and Trey Parker's potty-mouthed animated phenomenon began in April 1999 -- a little more than two months before the show made its big-screen leap in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut -- and finds the program at the peak of its popularity. Notable developments over the course of Season 3's 17 episodes include: the introduction of Chef's parents in "The Succubus (a.k.a. Chef's Mama)"; perhaps the first Jar-Jar Binks parody on record in "Jakovasaurs"; the three parallel episodes ("Cat Orgy," "Two Guys Naked in a Hot Tub," and "Jewbilee"), offering varying perspectives on a single night; Korn debuting "Falling Away from You" as part of the Halloween-themed "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery"; the Emmy-nominated Pokémon send-up, "Chinpoko Mon"; the first appearance of Sally "the Hutt" Struthers in "Starvin' Marvin in Space!"; the holiday-themed "Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics," for which a CD soundtrack is available; "Are You There God, It's Me Jesus," which ushered in the year 2000 on Comedy Central; and the season-closing "Worldwide Recorder Concert," boasting not only Yoko Ono and Kenny G but one of Kenny McCormick's all-time best ends, as he succumbs to terminal feces.

    a must have

This is easily my favorite season of South Park. In this season we see Trey and Matt start to grow as artists. The show's shock value mostly faded which allowed them to focus more on social commentary and cleaver scripts. Season three started to show some of the elements that made South Park such a great, lasting show.

definite fun to be had here...

yet another set of great episodes that any south park fan would enjoy. the three episodes occurring on the same night but from different points of view are spectacular. however, there is a certain feeling of seriousness that creeps under certain episodes (Rainforest Shmainforest & Chinpoko Mon are the most notable for this); sometimes this works out, sometimes it doesn't work as well as it could. the most disappointing thing about the set is that the small skits/segues between episodes are GONE and replaced by audio commentary only. i felt this was most unfortunate because i looked forward to seeing these new items as much as the shows. all in all, if you like south park you'll be pleased. enjoy.
