Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
The ambitious Space: 1999 was produced in 1975 by British sci-fi TV legends Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the husband-and-wife puppeteer auteur team that gave the world "supermarionation" and such cherished kids TV staples as Thunderbirds. The series posited a base camp on the Moon, Alpha, that was the unwitting victim of a devastating explosion that occurs when all of Earth's atomic waste -- sent up to and plunged into the lunar surface because it seemed like a good idea at first -- blows up. This sends the third rock from the sun's sole natural satellite careening off into uncharted space, with the waste-station team along for the ride. The cast is led by the erstwhile Mission: Impossible partners and off-screen husband-and-wife Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, with many British TV greats filling guest roles from time to time. Remastered from the original 35 mm prints, this DVD release features the episodes "Seed of Destruction," "The Beta Cloud," "Space Warp," "A Matter of Balance," and "The Bringers of Wonder" parts 1 and 2.
