A space bum helps rescue a princess from an evil overlord with the help of a benevolent elder in this Star Wars send-up written and directed by Mel Brooks. Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) and his half-man, half-dog co-pilot, Barf the Mawg (John Candy), are content to scour the galaxy living the easy life. But they reluctantly come to the rescue when Druish Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) is threatened by the evil Lord Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis), who wants to steal all of the air from her planet, Druidia. Trapped on a harsh desert world with Vespa and her robot chaperone, Dot Matrix (voice of Joan Rivers), Lone Starr and Barf are helpless to prevent Helmet from kidnapping the girl. But assistance arrives in the form of Yogurt (Brooks), a wizard who turns Lone Starr on to a mysterious power known as The Schwartz. Catching up with Helmet just as he's transforming his spaceship into a giant vacuum cleaner in orbit around Druidia, the reluctant heroes stage a dramatic showdown. Although it borrows most of its plot from the Star Wars series, Spaceballs also pokes fun at Star Trek, Snow White, and Planet of the Apes -- as well as the entire videocassette and movie marketing industries. The large supporting cast includes Dick Van Patten, Jim J. Bullock, and the voice of Dom DeLuise. John Hurt makes a cameo in a parody of the exploding chest scene he played in Alien.

Another great Mel Brooks feature. Not as good as Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles, but still has some great zany scenes. Mel and Rick M are great in this.
Except for lovely Daphne Zuniga to leer at, this stupid, written-for-5-year-olds, Star Wars rip off "satire" is stomach turning. Another crude inept mess from the meat grinder Mel Brooks, who thinks he's funny appearing in his own pathetic movies. Plain "Yogurt" indeed, with the flavor of an 8mm flick made by Jr. High Schoolers, and is past its expiration date. (I look forward to meeting his hit man at my door.)
One of the best comedies I've seen since Mofia! If you like stupid humor, like me, this movie is one of the best out there. Its funny no matter how many times you see it. It's worth buying!!
One of the best spoof movies ever made!
This was an excellent movie that keeps you involved and laughing throughout it. The characters and their lines are both memorable. I believe that this is a must for all star wars fans.
Spaceballs is one of the funniest movies i have ever seen. Every aspect of it is clever, yet completely stupid. This makes Spaceballs a very fun movie to watch over and over again! The movie also includes, many scenes that you will never forget and that will make you laugh for hours.
It was stupid.
the funniest and best movie i have seen. It is no. 1 in all the movies I've seen. I have seen at least 20 times and it's still very funny.
Oh did I ever enjoy this movie! I accidentally taped it... ...and now I watch like 50 times year! I will warn you, you have to kind of watch it a couple of times before you get some of the jokes.
This movie is great, and funny. Watch it a couple times to catch some of the stuff they do and some of the jokes and I promise you won't be watching another movie at the next party!
Its just to funny to explain in mere words, Space Balls is the work of a genious, a legend maybe...who cares...spend every dollar you have on Space Balls merchandising...i got the flamethrower!
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen! I only have one problem with this picture: For being rated PG it sure is suggestive... Still it's really funny. I love the Spaceballs theme song!!!
this movie was so funny it had alot of good actors and even know i have seen it 30 times i still love it
its the funniest movie i have ever seen
dear mel brooks, I like that movie and I think you should make spaceballs2 the search for money and its rated pg and no bad words and fetures lizzie mcguire and friends Miranda, Grodo , and Matt and Lanny and I love the movie hope you make that.
this is one of the most funny movies i have ever seen. please make a spaceballs2. this movie is worth enery penny!!!!!
i memorized this movie!! as you can tell by the headline! and Bill Pullman is a hottie and a half!!!
This movie is simply hilarious of the way they make fun of Star Wars. Entertaining too.
I generally concur with all the previous kind remarks about this, but I was appalled that the reviewer from All Movie Guide missed the word-for-word dialogue homage, in and prior to the marriage scene, from "It Happened One Night," the mid-30s Oscar-winning comedy with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert. That made the scene for me and cracked me up totally.
"Evil will always triumph, because good is dumb." -Dark Helmet- Watch this movie.
This is one of those stupid movies Mel Brooks does based off of a movie. Stupid, but funny. This movie is Mel Brooks's take on Star Wars. It has Darth Vader, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and princess Leia. Their names are almost the same, Dark Helmet, Lone Star, Barf and Princess Vespa. The movie is funny, and weird. If you love stupid comedies, then you have to watch it. This is one of my favorite 80's comedy movies.
