This is an eerily prescient family adventure starring Kate Capshaw as Andie, a frustrated NASA astronaut who's never actually been into outer space. Overview

This is an eerily prescient family adventure starring Kate Capshaw as Andie, a frustrated NASA astronaut who's never actually been into outer space. Her husband, flight controller Zach Tom Skerritt, is sympathetic, but he can't influence her place in the rotation. Andie is assigned to train a group of intelligent high school students at the summer science camp called Space Camp, which is run by NASA and supervised by her husband. There she meets her campers: Kevin Tate Donovan, a blasé, horny teenager; Tish Kelly Preston, an airhead with a photographic memory; Kathryn Lea Thompson, an arrogant pilot; obnoxious youngster Max Joaquin Phoenix, then billed under the first name Leaf; and scientist-in-training Rudy Larry B. Scott. While testing the solid booster rockets aboard a real shuttle, the team is blasted into space accidentally. Without enough air, the discordant team pulls together, each discovering hidden talents. The Challenger space shuttle disaster in January 1986 was bizarrely similar to the events depicted in Spacecamp, with far more horrific results. Its release date pushed back several months because of the tragedy, the film was still a painful reminder to the public of the national calamity, and it consequently grossed only about ten million dollars at the box office.

    I Loved Space Camp

This movie was awesome! I watched this movie all the time while I was in elementary school. I wanted to be an astronaut until I learned I had motion sickness issues. However, the movie rocks!

    Excellent

I'm sorry, but this movie was EXCELLENT! I saw this movie when I was very young and as an adult now I still love it! I have been hooked ever since I first saw it. I watched it so many times that I wore out the tape and my mother had to get a new one. This happned 2 times. I'm sorry but obviously anyone who does not like this movie has never been a child who dreamed of space travel and going to space camp. Having been that child once, I can tell you that that movie was a dream come true to my fantasies. Because of that movie it is my lifelong dream to work in Mission Control at NASA someday and I will work hard to get there. That is what Space Camp taught me. I give an incredible amount of credit to the maker...for helping lead me to my dreams.

    in science class....

In my 6th grade science class, I had to watch this film. We were studying space travel i believe. It was pretty darn bad to say the least. How unrealistic was this movie. I had a chance to go to space camp before. But I'm sure it wouln't be like that! Is it me, Or are all 80's movies like that? I dont think that the story line was adequete. DO you?
