Bob Spiers (director of TV's Absolutely Fabulous) directed this feature-film debut of the five Spice Girls -- Posh Spice, Sporty Spice, Scary Spice, Ginger Spice, and Baby Spice -- as the quintet challenges the London pop scene during five days before their first live performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Photojournalists follow as they travel from press conferences to practice sessions to photo ops, passing London landmarks in the comfort of their cavernous Spicebus and emerging in a musical cascade of color, trendy clothes, and blinding flashbulbs. Shot in 43 days, the film features cameos by everyone from Elton John and Elvis Costello, to Stephen Fry and Bob Hoskins.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Adam Goldberg
In the late '90s, the Spice Girls not only became an international pop sensation, but they decided to star in their own movie like the Beatles before them. Even though Spiceworld: The Movie lacks a coherent plot and structure, it is still an energetic and mildly amusing parody of fame, fortune, and the music industry. Since Posh and Co. don't take their celluloid fantasy seriously, the film quickly assumes a playful, tongue-in-cheek manner. The comedy works best when the group pokes fun at their popularity and takes on a self-deprecating tone. The girls are completely aware of the fact that they are not trained thespians, so they cleverly surround themselves with talent both on camera and off. In addition to the countless celebrity cameos, seasoned comedy director Bob Spiers (Absolutely Fabulous) keeps the film moving at a breakneck pace. He refers to Spiceworld: The Movie as an homage to A Hard Day's Night, but the effort is not nearly as successful. Unlike John, Ringo, George, and Paul, the Spice Girls don't have distinct personalities and it becomes hard to identify with any of them. Furthermore, the films of the Beatles featured classic and enduring songs, whereas the music of the Spice Girls has not survived in the millennium. Despite these flaws, most audiences will find something to enjoy in this harmless musical comedy that aims to please.

This is filled with Spice Girls music. It gives the audience a taste of what being a pop star is like. The movie show the girls on tour, in photo shoots, in publicity stunts, and at concerts. The Girls are silly, sexy, and adorable. The concert at the end was Pure Spice. Anyone looking for a silly movie, to pass a few hours, this works. Anyone nostalgic for seeing and hearing the Spice Girls this is great.

No No No atleast if your over 8 this films probably wont be for you. if you are buying this for somone under 8 go ahead the acting isnt anything special the Story is typical. not the best example of Brittish film making.

...then you'll LOVE this movie. It's almost so ridiculous it's funny...almost. Nearly made 'Passable', but I decided against it...once I recovered my senses and put away the vodka. Stick with Blackadder and Jeeves & Wooster if you want some REAL Brit humour.

ok people, this is a fun, light movie. Yes, the target audience was little girls, but its a cute movie. I admit, I was a spice fan back in the 90's and I still like them, even though I'm in college! This is a movie that you would watch for a laugh, or if there is nothing else to watch. It is cheesy, but the music is good.

Add this to your spice rack... our daughters love this very kitch film that shows how much fun you can have when you don't take yourself too seriously. Cameos by Bob Geldof, Stephen Fry, Elvis Costello, Elton John, and Bob Hoskins are highlights, but it is just wicked fun! From our 10 year old: My favorite charecter is Scary Spice. The best line of her's was about a goldfish... "This one reminds of my ex-boyfriend Steven....M-whoah!!!"
