Spider-man: The Ultimate Villain Showdown
This release from Buena Vista Home Video compiles various episodes from the 1990s incarnation of the Spider-Man animated TV show. The episodes included are "Make a Wish, "Attack of the Octobot, "Enter the Green Goblin, and "Rocket Racer." They are all presented in full screen (standard) with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and are all clean with no noticeable flaws. The spoken language choices are English and Spanish, both of which are in Dolby Digital 2.0. Special features include the entire 1967 origin of the superhero episode (which has both noticeable sound and image faults). There is also an interview with co-creator Stan Lee entitled "Stan Lee's Soap Box" which runs 20 minutes and includes his recollections of the creation of the comic book character. Lee also provides one-minute introductions to each of the main episodes included on the disk. The "Rogues' Dossiers" section features 12 notorious villains with their bios and further onscreen comments from Lee. The disc also includes trailers for Spy Kids 2, Snow Dogs, Max Keeble's Big Move, Power Rangers: Time Force, Digimon: Birth of Guilmon, and Teamo Supremo. A tidy package which should please fans of the web-slinger.

We bought this DVD thinking it might be suitable for our 4-year old, as we won't let him watch the regular Spider-man theater release movie. While this is a cartoon, it is otherwise extremely similar to the regular dramatic version, with a lot of fighting and extreme evil maneuvers not suitable for a youngster. The good part is the one original 1967 Spiderman cartoon, under the Special Features section... this is what we had hoped the whole disc was similar to.
This Spidey really takes me back. Great stories and flow from one episode to the next. I would love to see all of the Spider man episodes put into video form like this.
