Sports Night: The Complete Series includes all 45 episodes spread across six discs. The shows run continuously once an entry is selected, which could lead fans into significant time wasting. The DVD set features attractive and convenient packaging, but no extra features exist. While not a major surprise, this exclusion still ranks as a minor disappointment. It would have been enjoyable to hear a few commentary tracks or view some additional moments. Considering the limitations of its television origins, the series actually sports an impressive transfer. Appearing in its original full-frame format, it offers bright colors and a minimum amount of grain. The picture is obviously not as sharp as the superior anamorphic transfers on theatrical films, but it still works effectively. The 2.0 channel Dolby Surround audio track also is solid while remaining fairly centralized. Sports Night is composed almost entirely of dialogue, so the shortcomings are rarely noticeable.

This is not Sports Center. The widely hailed sitcom Sports Night -- like so many shows that are perhaps too good for television -- fell short of network ratings expectations. But the series lives on in this wonderful DVD collection, containing every episode from the show's two-year ABC run. Loosely reimagining ESPN's signature nightly news program Sports Center, Sports Night scored not just with lighting-fast behind-the-scenes repartee but also with serious perspectives on sport and sportsmen. Created by Aaron Sorkin, the previously unheralded leads include Josh Charles and Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) as the show-within-the-show's co-hosts, and Felicity Huffman as the program's spitfire of a producer.

I didn't catch Sports Night when it was on television first run, but caught a few episodes during late night replays. I do remember TV Guide telling the public 'one of the best programs you're not watching'. They were so right! So based on just a few episodes, I purchased the DVD set and have enjoyed every moment. Witty, smart, dynamic, clever casting and outstanding writing. 10 years later, the style of filming is still innovative and most enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend it...and I don't purchase many DVDs. Additionally, it is facinating to see the actors, virtually unknown in television at that time, and how they have come to fame since Sports Night.

Sports Night was a great show. I looked forward to it week to week. The character and plot developments were wonderful. I actually missed the characters when the show was cancelled. I still want to know what happened next. Too bad it couldn't find the audience ratings because it truly deserved lasting success. The actors/actresses and guests were always at their best. It was outstanding that a show took a superb actor who suffered a stroke and instead of sending him by the wayside, wrote the health issue into the storyline (Robert Guillaume). I couldn't recommend this series more highly.

I will say right off that I don't like sports. I'll go further to say I've never liked sports, as in I've never been to a sporting event, on tv I've lasted less than five minutes with the superbowl, and even the mildest of allusions to the subject instantly hit a button in my mind that tunes out the matter completely. With this is mind, Sports Night I consider to be the greatest television show I have ever watched. It's that good. In fact, it's better than that. Of the numerous genres I follow no one could have convinced me to turn the channel to this show, nothing could have peaked my interest less, and even the promise of ''great dialogue'' could sway my stubborness. I watched thirty seconds, no more, on Comedy Central three years ago and became wholly addicted. I've stood up and clapped at the end of shows alone in an empty room, read transcripts on the internet of the series twice, and taped episodes for a personal library. The very least I could do for the joy and entertainment Aaron Sorkin has bestowed upon all lucky enough to find this was push others in the same direction. By all means this is the greatest writer I have ever been privelleged to come upon, and the greatest series in television I know. I no longer have a television (starving artist here) but The West Wing is certainly going to be in my collection as soon as a compilation comes out if Sports Night was any testimony to the capabilities present.

Sports Night surpasses any superlative I can find. Buy the DVD already--there has never been a better TV show. Don't let the ''sports'' part sway you 'cos while there's enough sports in it to make even this die hard anti-sports nut take an interest, it's really about the lives of these flawed and fascinating characters. Bonus: you get to see Peter Krause pre-Six Feet Under (yummy!) The entire cast is excellent and most went on to play some role on West Wing, as well as showing up everywhere you look; the scripts are intelligent, funny, ironic, sensitive, and moving (oh, now I see why the show was cancelled) with rapid, gun-fire dialogue (a la Cary Grant/Rosalind Russell), and . . . well I could write forever about how terrific Sports Night is -- and Sports Night is the precursor of West Wing, so watch SN and see the development of a very successful style.

I reluctantly bought this set for my husband. Initally I had no interest in watching it but within the first ten minutes of the first episode I was hooked. It is without a doubt the best comedy series ever to air. The writing is amazingly clever; it's sophisticated rather than silly. The wit and charm written into each character is delightful. Each character is perfectly cast. This is an amazing ensemble of actors and actresses with impeccable timing and skill. How can you not only love Dana, Casey, Danny, Natalie, and Jeremy, but the rest of the supporting cast who deliver first rate performances equal to the primary players. It was a sad day when we watched the final episode knowing there were no new episodes to follow.

This show failed for several reasons - it was intelligent, funny, touching, dramatic. It was brilliantly written and acted. It's humor came from life, not the typical comedy formulae of deceit, lying, cruelty and the other sit-com comedic hallmarks

SPORTS NIGHT was SUCH a great show !!! and now truly devoted fans can get it all for themselves. The characters were great, I got so attached to them. TV Guide called it one of the BEST shows we were not watching, but they could not save it. You will ENJOY this show. '' This is SPORTS NIGHT, so stick around. ''

Anyone who can appreciate great television, and has yet not experienced this series will openly weep at its' conclusion. Had I Aaron Sorkin's ear, I would kneel in front of him to beg for it's return, as it is better than pretty much anything on television today. It crams more humor, drama, wit and tension into each 22 minute episode than most whole seasons of dreary hour-longs or tired sitcoms. You will find yourself watching four and five episodes in a sitting, often more. And you will find, when you are done, this delicious need to go back and savor some of the best dialogue since the old Tracy-Hepburn movies. Hey Casey...I stuck around...

The problem with a review about this DVD set is there are so many wonderful things to recommend about it. Every cast member (even the minor players) is superb, Aaron Sorkin's scripts are flawless; i have never seen anything like it before or since. It's a shame that it did not find a larger audience. It's also a shame that Aaron Sorkin is more well known for tripe like West Wing. If you like to laugh out loud, cry real tears, and be entertained while your brain is actually active, you will love this collection!

It was the best show on television when it was on television. Now its the best television show available on DVD.

It is unfortunate ABC did not continue this show. It is one of the best written and acted shows on television. It is wonderful to have the entire show released on DVD.

Sports Night will go down as one television's lost treasures. The show is filled with non-top action, which always keeps the view on their seat.

I was one of the one's who dismissed this show when it was on the air. I never watched, and I never wanted to. Then I saw it on Comedy Central over a year ago, and I haven't missed an episode since. I am still amazed how every cast member could do such a wonderful job. I'm still amazed that every joke has stayed funny. I'm still amazed that the final episode is so powerful, even after watching it 7 times. BUY THIS NOW. This show will change you.

One of the best shows ever on television, and it is gone. I so enjoy watching the shows and laughing over jokes that aren't really jokes, and admiring the incredibly taut and smart writing. Only one complaint about this set: why oh why was a laugh track added? I know what is funny and when to laugh; the laugh track is distracting.

Wow. I started watching the show in sindication on Comedy Central. What a great show. The writing, acting, comedy. Simply spectacular. This was the show that prompted me to watch The West Wing, another brobdingnagian successful series. Thank you Aaron Sorkin!!

This show was possibly the best ever made. What I enjoyed the most about the show (that other reveiws failed to mention) is the incredible use of symbolism thoughout the series. Some of the all-time greatest writting on Television... too bad Main stream America never figured that out.

I had watched a few episodes of this show, but I think my schedule got changed at work. Anyway, I want to thank whomever donated this to Last Chance Thrift Store in Decatur, GA because I got the entire set in excellent condition for $5.00 Now I can smile and cry watching it whenever I want to. Do yourself a favor and buy this.

This is one of my all time favorites - I purchased the first boxed set and enjoy it over and over - now that this new set is coming out with all of the extras that it lists - I would highly recommend it to any Sorkin fan - great characters and story lines in each episode
