Overview

Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez star in director John Badham's action comedy Stakeout. The film is presented in very nice 1.85:1 anamoprhic widescreen transfer. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English and takes good advantage of a home theater surround sound system. While this sound mix isn't overly bombastic or full, it does include some unique directional effects and surround sounds, along with crystal clear dialogue, effects and music. No alternate soundtracks or subtitles are available on this disc. Sadly, fans of the film are stuck with a completely bare bones release of this film -- not a single extra feature has been included on this disc.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
This 1987 oddball buddy flick was a commercial success thanks in part to its loose, hammy cast and its peeping Tom sensibility. Although certainly not of Rear Window's caliber, the film borrows from the Hitchcock classic's central premise of invading a stranger's private life. Director John Badham gives the concept a sleazy spin that generally adds to the overall comedic mood of the film, while Richard Dreyfus and Emilio Estevez make for an upbeat pair of clowns, espousing homoerotic humor and all manner of comic pranks and hijinks. Aidan Quinn is convincing as an escaped convict and Forrest Whitaker also lends support with a brief appearance. Badham uses the bleak, overcast city of Seattle as the story's backdrop, eliciting a surprisingly subtle mood for the farcical action-comedy. Stakeout was a big enough hit at the box office to produce a sequel of much lower quality.

    A laugh riot

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Dreyfuss and Estevez are in top form playing detectives on a stakeout. Stowe is as sexy as ever playing Dreyfuss's love interest. The blend of comedy and action is carried off well by director John Badham. You'll roll off the couch laughing. Just avoid the sequel at all costs.
