Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
The final voyages of what producers say will be the Star Trek franchise’s final frontier is notable for several things, not the least of which are the many nods to earlier Trek incarnations, and the original series itself. Following the conclusion of the epic Xindi saga and the resolution of the third-season cliffhanger, Enterprise goes in other directions, finishing its with a succession of multi-episode story arcs that confront Captain Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and his intrepid crew with extraordinary challenges. Next Generation costar Brent Spiner figures prominently in a trilogy of episodes -- "Borderland," "Cold Station 12," and "The Augments" -- built around the Augments, a small group of genetically engineered humans that hijack a Klingon ship and threaten to precipitate a devastating galactic conflict. Other arcs focus on a Vulcan civil war and the breaching of a parallel universe in the two-part season highlight, "In a Mirror, Darkly." Also threaded through Season 4 is a not-totally-unexpected subplot devoted to the romance between Commanders T'Pol (Jolene Blalock) and Tucker (Connor Trinneer). The series finale, "These Are the Voyages..." incorporates Next Generation characters Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Troi (Marina Sirtis) in a uniquely satisfying end to the Star Trek saga. Some of the franchise's fans found Enterprise problematic, but there's no denying that the series went out on a dignified note, and you'll find lots of great viewing in this extras-crammed box set.
