Barnes & Noble - R.J. Wafer
Call it the "real McCoy." Not to be confused with the nine-piece Motion Pictures Gift Set, this purist's collection compiles the six movies featuring the familiar stand-by cast of the original Star Trek series. William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, George Takei, Walter Koenig, and Nichelle Nichols are the faces that started it all -- the faces that are now as inseparable from popular culture as the phrase "beam me up." Directed by the venerable Robert Wise, the first film reunites the original crew and adds such fresh faces as Stephen Collins (of TV's 7th Heaven) to the Enterprise's bridge. Often hailed as a Trekkie favorite, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) reintroduces the villainous Khan (Ricardo Montalban) from the TV series' 1967 episode "Space Seed." Khan captures the starship USS Reliant and takes command of the experimental Genesis device in order to exact his revenge upon Kirk (William Shatner) and the Enterprise crew. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) finds the crew of the USS Enterprise in a test of loyalty, as they disobey direct orders and return to the Genesis planet to revive their fallen comrade, Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy, who also directed). Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) follows the crew back in time to the 20th century on a search for an extinct species of whale that can help them save the future. In 1989's Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, the Enterprise is lured to Nimbus III by a misguided Vulcan trying to secure passage to what he believes to be God. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) depicts the peace process between the Federation and the Klingons, and the resolution of unsettled grudges.
