A New Hope is potentially the greatest science fiction movie ever made. Everyone should own a copy!

Two versions are better than one.

As an older Star Wars fan, I have loved the original versions of New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I went to see the new updated versions in the theater, as well, but, while the new CGI scenes were more modern, they added nothing to the films, in my opinion. I was glad to see that in this product, I can get both versions. The DVD quality is excellent, the menu is easy to use, the sound is great and I can sit back and either enjoy the movie as I originally watched it back in 77 or I can opt for the updated one with the newer scenes, should I feel the need to do so. Definitely worth the price for all three of these DVDs, as opposed to getting the three-pack of the updated version only.

the one that started it all

For those who hate the special editions(and there are many)you can watch it in it's classic form. And if you like the improved effects, you can watch that version as well. What more can you want? Perhaps put all 6 into one blue ray set.

Han did shoot first

I think this is the only version of the DVD that has the original theatrical version without all of the GARBAGE that Lucas threw in after the fact. I cannot bring myself to watch the "Enhanced" version of the movie. Too much cheese for me. The effects were great the way they were and definitely bring me back to the time when I saw this in the theater over 10 times (once at a drive in).<BR/><BR/>And yes, Han absolutely shot Greedo first and pre-emptively. Why is that a bad thing?

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope on DVD

I'm a Star Wars lover from beggining to end. Now that this "historcs" of the Star Wars Saga have been placed in Episodes I,II,III, the original movie, A NEW HOPE is starting to make more sense. Star Wars is a adult and children flik. Girl and Boy. I am a twelve year old boy who loves Star Wars and am glad to see it out on DVD. Luke Skywakler is a bored farmboy who wants to join the academy to fight the villianous Empire. His closest friend Biggs Darklighter was already sent to the academy. Because of the treachery of Luke's father, Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) Luke is trapped with his old and boring Uncle and Aunt, Owen and Beru. The mysterious wizard on Tatooine, Ben Kenobi is not only an old Jedi Knight, but one of the last. When the Empire lands on Tatooine Luke has gone with Ben to find a wreked Jawa Sandcrawler and the Sandpeople of Tatooine framed. The Empire was searching for the two droids R2-D2 and C-3PO who are carrying the destroy plans of the Empires frightening battlestation... The Death Star. Luke daringly jumps into his speeder only to find his Uncle and Aunt smoldering and the Empire nowhere in sight. Luke and Ben are trying to find passage to the system Alderaan because of a distress signal from a beautiful woman, Princess Leia Organa. Finding a ship to carry them, driven by the cocky Han Solo and his first partener Chewie, Ben and Luke are soon on their way...only to find Alderaan destroyed... This movie is a classic beyond all classics. A NEW HOPE is only one of the great Star Wars adventures. GO, George Lucas, keep making more. Rated PG for Sci-Fi action violence and some mild language.

The Original Trilogy Is Still The Best! Search Your Feelings, You Know It To Be True!

Anyone out there who would bag on these movies because they're "campy" is truly missing out. The movies are fine without the rubbery over-gloss of CG animation. These are a classic heroes journey tale with great characters, dialog, fantastically crafted visual effects, with also more genuine heart than all the "prequels" combined.

The movie itself will always rank 5 stars but...

...I was a little disappointed that there were no documentaries included with this edition. As for the theatrical release disc, I thought it was perfect! watching it with the occasional squib in the film really made it nostalgic for me. For the most part I enjoy the remastered and enhanced version(except for that whole Greedo shot first crap)but it was totally cool to see the film in the same format i saw it on in the theatre in '77 when i was three. All in all a great buy if you're like me and can't afford to drop 70 bones for the box set, or if you are a purist who want the theatre cut.

In my opinion this movie was horrible. I don’t know if it was because it seemed to appeal to an audience my brother’s age or what. Something about it just completely turned me away from it. Directed by George Lucas, the movie does have a very imaginative twist to it, I guess you could say. Apparently more people liked it than disliked it according to the ratings at the time it came out, in 1977, and in years since. Lucas cast several talented people including Harrison Ford [Han Solo], Mark Hamill [Luke Skywalker], Carrie Fisher [Princess Leia], Peter Cushing [Grand Moff Tarkin], Alec Guiness [Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi], Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker [C-3PO and R2-D2], Peter Mayhew [Chewbacca], and Darth Vader was played by David Prowse and his voice was done by James Earl Jones. Movies like this one didn’t really get my attention for something I would want to watch again. For some reason I found it a little difficult to follow. Maybe I just didn’t open up to it enough.

These unaltered ORIGINAL trilogy releases have NOT been digitally enhanced. The video is the same quality as the laserdisc version, and the sound is NOT Dolby 5.1 but is Dolby Pro-logic 3 channel. Sorry to say the truth, but if you want to original unaltered versions on DVD with digitally enhanced features you might have to wait a few more years.

WOW, YOU HAVE TO GET THIS!

I have gotten my copy of Star Wars (A New Hope) DVD, original and special edition in one DVD release. This is very worth getting. I was not expecting the nice quality in the release, but the original version is cleaned up and restored and the sound is terriffic. The original version is on the second disc, while the 2004 version is on the first disc. There is a 2004 commentary on the first disc and there is a newely recorded commentary on the original version on the second disc. There is also a very detailed documentary, over an hour long about the original versio on the second disc. I was surprised by the release, because I was hearing that the original versions were not going to be cleaned up, so I was shocked to see it has been cleaned up. THIS IS A GREAT RELEASE!
