Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Just as the long-running science fiction hit Stargate:SG-1 entered its eighth season in 2004, creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper entered the spin-off zone with Stargate: Atlantis. While SG-1's stars, Richard Dean Anderson (O'Neill) and Michael Shanks (Jackson), provide a link to the new series in the premiere, "Rising," Atlantis is set in an entirely different galaxy; thus, the two shows could coexist without worrying about continuity. In Atlantis, an expedition sets out to investigate the fabled lost city -- which is actually the home to a mystical alien race, the Ancients. Once a part of Earth, Atlantis is now located in the far-off Pegasus galaxy, and an all-volunteer force launches through the Stargate, knowing they can never return. American Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) heads up an international team of that includes Canadian astrophysicist Rodney McKay (David Hewlett), Scottish physician Carson Beckett (Paul McGillion), and two U.S. military officers -- Major John Sheppard (Joe Flanigan) and Lt. Aiden Ford (Rainbow Sun Francks). When they make it to Atlantis, they are introduced to Teyla Emmagan (Rachel Luttrell), an Athosian alien who warns the team of a new threat: the Wraith. Unlike the Goa'uld which seek to enslave humans in the SG-1 universe, the Wraith simply suck the life from humans on Atlantis. The team is on constant alert because of this new foe, and most of the season is spent battling the evil creatures. The Wraith also play a large part in the season finale, "The Siege," in which the Atlantis station comes under attack by their superior weapons. Slightly darker than its predecessor, Stargate: Atlantis is nevertheless an exciting sci-fi ride.

Truly a work of genius! It encompasses the best visual effects to date, that being the city of Atlantis. The interaction of the characters is perfect and adds to the storyline. The story itself is quite incredible. It opens our eyes to the "vastness of the universe." For a spin-off series of Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis is doing quite well! In terms of fans, it is in league with Stargate SG-1! As for Season One, it was just spectacular, after all, it is the beginning of the story. The Stargate Series, both SG-1 and Atlantis, are truly must haves!!!!!

Stargate Series are excellent. Barnes & Noble is not sending the packaged product as shown which has colorful art work box with three slim DVD cases that have their own art work for each case. You will receive the new packaging where all DVDs are in one plastic DVD case.

I really think that this is a well done Spin-Off!! I already liked SG1, so I thought I would try Atlantis to see how it was going to be..and am I ever glad I did! I prefer it to SG1, as does my teenage son. Not sure exactly why, but the fact remains that we like it FAR better than the original!! Well worth the watching, and you even get to see some of the original characters with cameo's!!

Beautiffly done with ease of use. Watching Season One again has cleared up some questions in Season Two. If your trying to get "into" Science Fiction this would be a great choice for adults and older teens. Younger teens and children might find the Wraithe scenes too vivid. Hope you enjoy your purchase or gift.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this DVD series and have started Season 2. It does leave you hanging on the last episode so you will definitely want the Second Season.
