Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
For a 1970s TV series that proved popular enough to be made into a big-screen film over 30 years later starring Ben Stiller and Luke Wilson, it's interesting to note that Starsky & Hutch actually only lasted four seasons. Back for this final season of undercover assignments to take down the bad guys are David Starsky Paul Michael Glaser, the intense, streetwise one, and Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson David Soul, the more intellectual and educated of the two. Like previous seasons, the partners are aided by their confidential informant, Huggy Bear Antonio Fargas, dressed to the nines in his eclectic, pimp-style clothing. The opener to the 1978-79 season, "Discomania," is among the most memorable of the series, if only to see the pair go undercover as disco dancers. In "Blindfold," Starsky accidentally shoots a bystander when responding to a store robbery, causing her to go blind. The duo must prevent a furious father -- also a cop -- from taking revenge on his daughter's rapist in "Strange Justice." When Hutch is shot and critically injured in "Black and Blue," Starsky is teamed up with a female partner to go after the guys that did it. Perhaps the best-loved stretch of the series, "Targets Without a Badge" plays out across three episodes and finds S&H contemplating retirement after losing Huggy Bear's friendship. With Glaser eager to exit his contract at the season’s close, the finale, "Sweet Revenge," flirts with bumping off the costar. He lives; but alas, the show died, as ABC decided not to renew the flagging series for a fifth season.
