Overview

A lonely spinster discovers the seemingly perfect romance she has longed for is marked by a cruel secret in this romantically bittersweet addition to The Criterion Collection. Presented in 1.33:1 full-screen pan-and-scan only and accompanied by an English Dolby Digital Mono audio track, aside from the inclusion of a theatrical trailer this release is curiously lacking in the usual abundant extra features that have made The Criterion Collection one of the most respected DVD-releasing companies among film enthusiasts. Extra features are limited to a theatrical trailer.

A wonderful romantic love story. Hepburn and Brazzi give great performances, but the real star of the film is Venice.

After you watch Summertime you will have to make the trip to Venice for yourself. Hepburn and Brazzi are just wonderful...you'll wish you were Jane Hudson falling in love with Renaldo in the magical city of Venice. Everytime I watch it ( and I've seen it about 100 times) I hope they stay together forever in the City of Love....but she does the ''sensible'' thing and returns to her job and life in the states...but boy do you wish she would stay, it had a somewhat sad ending for me. Watch this movie just for the beautiful display of Venice!!

I have loved this movie since I was a kid. I remember seeing it on TV first. It alway made me think that I had a chance for love even though I was not so pretty as some (at least I thought so). She was so brave to take a trip to Venice all by herself, and then to meet someone so good looking! Makes me want to go to Venice all over again.
