Super Street Action

Overview

If there was some sort of Golden Turkey Award for poorly executed DVDs, TTG Direct's Super Street Action would likely be a sure bet to make the short list of nominees; this disc manages to disappoint on nearly every level. The disc is supposed to feature two vintage blaxploitation titles, Black Force and Black Force 2, though the second film is in fact a re-titled version of Brother On The Run (aka Man On The Run and Boots Turner), and not only isn't it a sequel, sharing no characters or plot elements with Black ...

Overview

If there was some sort of Golden Turkey Award for poorly executed DVDs, TTG Direct's Super Street Action would likely be a sure bet to make the short list of nominees; this disc manages to disappoint on nearly every level. The disc is supposed to feature two vintage blaxploitation titles, Black Force and Black Force 2, though the second film is in fact a re-titled version of Brother On The Run (aka Man On The Run and Boots Turner), and not only isn't it a sequel, sharing no characters or plot elements with Black Force, but it was actually released first, originally hitting theaters in 1973, while Black Force first played out under the title Force: IV in 1975! The quality of the presentation is on a par with this faulty logic. Both features have been transferred to disc in pan-and-scan transfers at the full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1; in case it wasn't obvious that these films aren't in their original format, in both movies parts of the credits are chopped off by poor framing of the cropped image. Black Force was clearly taken from a video source, possibly a VHS cassette (complete with occasional signs of tape damage), and the image quality is dark and murky, with nighttime scenes all but impossible to follow; the second feature looks a bit better, but was also clearly taken from an older video copy rather than a new transfer, and the picture quality is dull, with a mottled color balance. Both films are in English, with no subtitles or multiple language options. No bonus materials of any kind are included in this release, and in a particularly egregious money-saving measure, no chapter stops are included with either feature. And finally, most of the stills featured on the package artwork aren't even from these two films! Super Street Action is being sold as a budget price album, but sometimes just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's a bargain.
