Wow It was Awesome and I hope that there are more Superman movies coming!

I enjoyed Brandon Routh as Superman so very much and hope that he will be our next Superman. All of this movie was great, exciting and Awesome. The special effects we GREAT and the Direction, Story, had me on the edge of the seat. It was so professionally done. I hope to see more and keep all the actors in all of them. AWESOME111

A very well done sequel

The movie, Superman Returns, finely written by Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris, shows Superman (Brandon Routh) going to Krypton and returning. Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth)is now engaged and has a young son. And evil Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and his assistant (Parker Posey) are up to no good.

Thomas Sigel (breathtaking cinematography), production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas and costume designer Louise Mingenbach mix many different elements for a stunning look all its own. Composer John Ottman creates an epic score.

It is to the credit of director, Bryan Singer, who not only is the wonderful story teller, but also brings together and choreographs all of these elements, including the casting, along with Spacey and Posey, of Kate Bosworth, James Marsden, Frank Langella, Sam Huntington and of the unknown Brandon Routh. All excellent choices.

REALLY GOOD way to reboot Superman!! Nuf Ced!!!

Superman Returns was wonderful!! Since Christopher Reeve is a)too old, and b)he's dead:(, they had to find a really good Superman. Brandon Routh was 1/2 an inch shy of filling Reeve's shoes. But don't let that stop you! He was magnificent!! Kate Boswell was great as Lois Lane, filling Margot Kidder's shoes! And Kevin Spacey took over Lex Luthor from Gene Hackman. Spacey was 10x better than Hackman!! SEE THIS MOVIE NOW!!!!

Superman Returns I thought would be something of a reboot to the character like they did with Batman Begins and knowing how well that turned out for their other iconic hero (Batman) I was very excited about this Superman movie. Now although it isnt exactly a reboot I liked it simply for the fact that the movie makers didn't change the characters personality or beliefs or story. This is a very good superman movie but unfortunently those looking for a clash between Superman and another super powered villain your gonna have to wait for another movie.

Big Red Boots to Fill

For those looking for a wholly original Superman movie, you'll just have to wait longer. The point of this film was to pick up where Superman II left off, incorporating the same basic characters that had been so boldly drawn by Christopher Reeve, Margot Kidder and Gene Hackman. Brandon Routh obviously spent hours watching Reeve, aping the actor-- who, for many of us, is the one and only Superman--with a great deal of success, particularly as the oafish Clark Kent. Routh is both endearing and virile as Clark/Superman, showing real tenderness and longing as he peers in to Lois's home checking up on his love. I didn't find this scene to be voyeuristic in the slightest, it seemed to be to be a device used by Singer to show us Superman's resolve to fight evil for Lois, rather than for the good of the entire planet, thereby making him more accessable to the audience, because, hounestly, who can relate to wanting to save billions of lives--but one life, one love to live and work and sacrifice for? That is something everyone can relate to and strive for. Kevin Spacy is brilliant as Lex Luthor. I don't feel Gene Hackman (incredible actor that he is) was ever truly menacing and diabolical as Luthor. Spacey takes Lex down the evil-genious path with a touch of serial-killer thrown in and creates a villian we believe rather than one we giggle at. The only real disappointment acting-wise is the pitiful Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane. Katie Holmes for all the flack she got about her performance in Batman Begins would have been a much better choice for Lois. Bosworth's Lane is a helpless, stuck-up, belligerent heroine completely incapable of taking care of herslef. Lois Lane gets into situations from which she needs rescuing because she is tough and gritty and unafraid of danger. Bosworth gives us a typical damsel-in-distress portrayal with none of the fire of Margot Kidder or even the Lois Lane of the WB animated series. Lois Lane would never ask "how many s's are in catastrophy?" (or whatever dumb thing she asks), she's way too smart. I mean, she's supposed to have won the Pulizer for goodness' sake! A major disappointment. The film itself is visually stunning, particularly the sequence with the airplane. The score is magnificent. John Ottman uses just the right blend of the classic Williams themes and his own original material. I can remember exiting the theatre when I was a kid hearing those famous 5ths that make up the Superman Theme and hearing them again 30 years or so later at the close of Superman Returns brought tears to my eyes. Yes, less attention was paid to the plot and the character development, but what do you want from a superhero movie? But until we get a movie made in which Superman has a physical equal (the reason Superman II was so good), I'm afraid we'll still be left wanting more. I vote for the Death of Superman...bring on Doomsday! All in all, if you enjoy Superman and take the movie for what it is, you'll have a good time. PS--the reason the prop-plane was such a struggle for Superman to handle was because he had been stabbed with a shard of pure Kryptonite making his exposure to the radiation (what actually kills him) immediate. When he was lifting the island the radiation was being absorbed through his skin and not directly into his bloodstream, therefore he was able to summon the necessary strength to toss the island in to space. Wow...I totally geeked out there...sorry!

I paid $5 to see this movie and thinkin it was going to be great. WRONG. THe movie was all about SUperman trying to win back Lois Lane because she moved on with her life. Hey Superman, shes married, go find another woman. THis movie should have been called Superman: The Man of Desperation. I almost gave this movie one star, but i didn't because I really enjoyed the special effects and Kevin SPaceys performance was great also. If one day a sequel is in the works, here is a little advice to the director: MORE ACTION SEQUENCES.

The "Modern Superman" is great, but we will never have Christopher Reeve

I am a huge fan of the Christopher Reeve moves. (Just the first two!) I love the cast, John William's score, the story- all of it. What I really enjoyed about Superman Returns was how it was somewhat a sequel to Superman II: John Ottman incorporated John Williams score, the opening titles were the same as the original film, and many references were made to Superman I and II. As for the actual movie, Brandon Routh is ok but for me he isn't strong enough to play Superman. I don't like the new costume. I honestly think Kate Bosworth was not the right choice for Lois Lane- I like Margot Kidder from the 70s, and going with the theme of the original movies but putting a tough Lois Lane in there made her not fit. I really enjoyed Kevin Spacey's Luthor.

A new Superman has arrived!

Superman Returns is directed by Brian Singer who directed the first and second x-men movies and he did a great job on this movie.This movie is supposed to leave of after the second movie because of the third and fourth movies were not that successful,but the films were not that bad.But this is way better then the other two films.This film is a change because Superman is not Christopher Reeves,but this movie is a unique one because of that and it has been years since the last movie and Cristopher Reeves is to me the only Superman.But this movie is not to be hated.

The Unnecessary Adventures of Superman !

Let me get this off my chest first: Parker Posey, amazingly enough, both sucks and blows. How she has gotten the reputation she has astounds me. The reality of it is this - you could, literally, cut every shot of her out of the new Superman movie, every line of dialogue, and it wouldn't change the film one bit. Her part is not only completely superfluous, but is utterly pointless. And that may be the only thing "super" about Superman Returns. Superman Returns isn't a bad movie. Not at all. But it is a BORING one. And that's a special kind of sin when it comes to superhero movies. That being said, it's the sheer amounmt of duplication from the 1978 Superman movie that take you `out' of the movie experience. Here are the Grand Annoyances that make up this film... At 2 hours and 34 minutes, it is way, way too long. To say you could cut an hour out of this movie would be generous. With the amount of "plot" involved, this could easily have been a 1-hour TV show. Seriously. While it's not exactly a remake of the 1978 Christopher Reeve movie, it's about as close as you can get sometimes. While one line is very close to a line in that film, two others are repeated verbatim. Lex Luthor, and his gal pal (who doesn't like him, and longs for/is sorry for Superman) plan to kill millions of people and then make millions in real estate. A piece of Kryptonite from Addis Ababa plays a key role. Which film? Both !! The young actor playing Superman? He's not bad at all, really. But he doesn't play Superman he does an impression of Christopher Reeve doing Superman. Don't get me wrong, he does it well. But did we need that? Speaking of which, did we need Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane? About as integral as Katie Holmes or whoever it was in latest Batman movie, this 'sleepwalk' role of a now ‘nothing’ character could have been played by anyone. Even that Marsden guy (who sleepwalked through three X-Men movies, turning team leader Cyclops into a nothing character), could've played Lois Lane. Oh, but wait. He was busy sleepwalking through the role of Lois Lane's husband ! Darn. Frank Langella, who hasn't been good since he played Dracula 30 years ago, is equally useless. Daily Planet boy scout in residence, Jimmy Olsen, however, manages to both drink a beer and say "pissed." Which is a nice step forward for that character. But let's face it, unless you're waiting for a Spin Doctors reunion tour, no one cares about Jimmy Olsen's Blues. Superman Returns is not a bad film. It's a long, sometimes boring, exercise by someone who really wanted to make a Superman movie. You won't laugh, you won't cry. You'll just kiss 20 bucks goodbye. And then wonder . . . Why...? It's a C +.

The fun is back!

"Superman Returns" in style!Bryan Singer has put the fun back in this series.While the movie is too long(a common problem these days),it moves along briskly and holds the interest throughout.The script is lively and amusing.The production is top-notch in every area.The sets,photography,special effects, and John Ottman's score are outstanding. Bryan Singer once again shows why he is the best action director in the business today. He keeps a firm grip on the material at all times and really ratchets up the suspense. And he gets brilliant performances from a fine cast.Eva Marie Saint,Frank Langella, James Marsden,and Kal Penn are excellent. Parker Posey and Kevin Spacey are deliciously hammy.Kate Bosworth is wonderful. But the movie's biggest surprise-and best asset-is its star.Brandon Routh is simply magnificent here.Yes,ladies.he looks GREAT in those blue tights.But there is so much more to his performance than good looks. He brings charm,charisma,conviction,a quiet strength,and great dignity to Superman.He is every inch the equal of Christopher Reeve,to whom he bears a striking resemblance.This is the breakout performance of the year.And it comes in one of the year's best movies.Enjoy!

He may be the Man of Steel but his morals are made of a more malleable metal

Yes, it was visually stunning. A great Lex Luthor, scary bad, an okay Lois Lane (if you like your women tepid) and a son? My Superman does not have premarital sex. My Superman is not a peeping tom. My Superman does not abandon his child to be raised by another man. My Superman is not this Bryan's Superman. My Superman has morals of Steel and a heart to gold.

Superman a stalker...?

Pretty disappointing. Superman does some questionable things in this movie that make him a somewhat ambiguous hero... making moves on a married Lois, following her home and peering at her with xray vision. I like Bryan Singer's screen shots, excellent action, beautiful CG effects. Story was a little illogical at times, like how does he lift a kryptonite island that almost killed him previously, if he was able to pick up a huge island like that how come a little errant passenger plane is such trouble, etc. Story is predictable.

I thought this was a wonderful addition to the Superman collection. Brandon Routh was excellent as both the strong, noble Superman and his goofy, bumbling alter-ego Clark Kent. I wasn't sure anyone else could ever play Superman, but he was great. Even my comic-writer husband loved it. We both appreciated the little tributes to the first Superman movies, which are sprinkled throughout, for example, Marlon Brando's speech to his son and the fact that Superman thinks "flying is the safest way to travel" and tells people that after he saves their plane from crashing in both this movie, and the first one. Kevin Spacey was wicked as Lex too.

this movie is by far the best movie of the year. My favorite part is the plane scene.

In continuing the Richard Donner Superman vein, Bryan Singer has succeeded!!! This movie was great, and to see Superman fly like I've always envisioned in my imagination was awesome. Recommended!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, don't miss Kevin Spacey's best performance since American Beauty.
