Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Winning performances by Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron lend considerable charm to Sweet November, an otherwise predictable romantic drama with welcome flashes of humor. Keanu plays Nelson Moss, a hard-charging San Francisco ad executive who endures a compulsory stint in driving school, where he meets free-spirited Sara Deever (Theron). She immediately identifies him as a soulless, materialistic capitalist who desperately needs to slow down and smell the roses. Resorting to clever subterfuge, Sara convinces Nelson to be her roommate for one month -- 30 short days that ultimately change both their lives forever. In remaking the 1968 weepie of the same name -- which starred Sandy Dennis and Anthony Newley -- director Pat O'Connor (Inventing the Abbotts) occasionally resorts to familiar soap-opera conventions and characters (including the girl's obligatory gay best friend, played here with aplomb by Patriot villain Jason Isaacs). But he elicits fine performances from the always radiant Theron and the frequently wooden Reeves, who seems more emotionally limber than usual. The third-act revelation of Sara's "secret" won't surprise anyone who's ever seen more than three romance movies, but it's handled with tact and sensitivity. The DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette titled "From the Heart," cast/crew career highlights, and a theatrical trailer.
San Francisco Chronicle
Sweet November is neither a masterpiece nor a remake of one, but its wistfulness is infectious, and its melancholy mood lingers for days. Mick LaSalle

Excellent movie. She is incredible charming and full of life. Sara gave Nelson a new life, and he gave her the love she is long for. Look back, the end is not that sad. November, great month for both of them

The movie is a classic... it pictures that true love is letting go and wishing the best for the both parties. It makes us realize that life is short and it matters how we make the most out of it....

This movie is excellent for anyone that is feeling sad and gloomy inside because it gives you life again. I saw it one day just laying around and it grabbed my eye the way no other has grabbed. I definitly give 5 stars without a doubt in mind. It's romantic, comedy, dramatic, and scary (just because it could happen to any one of us). This film has all the elements of a great story.

Watched this move on my way to Las Vegas and will see it again, which to me says a lot since I generally watch movies once. There's something captivating about the obvious chemistry between Keanu and Charlize...... They are such beautiful people, who in the end sadly fall victim to that province of the fools - Total and absolute control of a relationship coupled with unwillingness to let the spirit soar !!!

I thought that this movie was excellent. One of the best chick flicks I have seen in a long time.

I loved this movie! Not only are Keanu Reeves and Charlize Theron teaming up again, but in something as romantic as this. This movie is a total classic! If you're feeling sad about love or life, watch this movie. It'll cure everything. Tissues recommended...

The hard times they know are coming do not stop the love they know they hold true in their hearts. All couples who are serious should watch this movie and hold the meaning close to their hearts...How ever they may take it...Nichole Post--Panama City FL

It was VERY deep... I think there are two or three distinctly different things about it, that all inter-twined around each other at the same time... They weren't real clear about some of this, so it's just my interpretation, O.K..?? #1.... Nelson is very much like many people... too busy to know how to have fun... too busy to invest any time in anybody else... Alot of people are like that... They think that money and success and looks and social status are the most important things... unfortunately, most people live their entire lives like that, and end up miserable..!!! #2... At first, I thought Sarah was up to something really bad... then I started feeling sorry for her... then I got mad at her again for messing with Nelson's mind like she was... but when the movie was over, I realized that alot of people do exactly what Sarah did to Nelson... I think alot of us have our own reasons... hers was cancer, but I think it was more than cancer... I think that she was afraid... I think alot of people are afraid... I think that's the biggest thing that held her back from loving him... she was afraid that he wouldn't or couldn't love her back the way she needed him to... but it is deeper than that... she was also afraid that if he saw her sick and dying, it would somehow ''ruin'' their perfect time together... Well, isn't that just like alot of people in relationships..?? The first sign that something isn't going perfectly, and they're ready to put an end to it all... just to ''preserve'' the good parts... I think she was very selfish to have left him the way she did.... If you really love someone, part of that love is seeing them through ANYTHING... No matter how hard it might seem... When you love somebody, it isn't just in the good parts of life... It's in ALL of it, good and bad... He was ready to commit to her, even though he knew she was dying... She took that away from him... He would've loved her til the end.... #3.... Sarah convinced Nelson that He was the one who needed to be helped... that she was doing all of this to help HIM.... She was going to teach him how to ''live''... But in reality, she was the one who needed someone... she was the one who needed to learn how to ''live''... she was very sad and very lonely... That's why she only allowed the relationship to go on for 30 days... She was too afraid of committment, or of being hurt by someone... so she stayed in control of everything.... Only this time, it back-fired... It was a very interesting movie... there were alot of layers to it.... I think society, in general, is very similar to the whole plot of this movie... messed up people, trying so desparately to not get hurt that they end up hurting themselves and everybody around them, anyway..!!! If she would've just taken the chance, she would've had her soul-mate... she would've been happy and he would've been happy.... but her fears stopped it all.... Her fear of being hurt, ended up hurting her the most... Very Very Sad..!!!

I have never liked a romantic movie, and neither cried! But this was really sad, how something so deep can be forgotten? He made really special things for her, I think a woman wrote the movie, ja! The music is excellent... Just close your eyes and let me go...

After reading all those possitive comments, I have made up my mind to go out and watch this film. I strongly enjoy Jommel's comments on the film. Thanks you guys for, at least, indicating me to choose this film for my weekend.

I know, Keanu Reeves, a love interest? But, Charlize Theron was a dream! She made you believe in life again; even though she was dying! She made you want to live everyday to the fullest! It also seemed that she gave Keanu some ''life'' in the movie and for real! I cried tears of sadness at the end of this movie, but I also cried tears of joy. It made me stop ''sweating the small stuff'' and take life (and love) by the horns. Bravo, Ms. Theron! Clap, Clap Keanu, one day you'll get there!

This is about a guy who spends a month with a woman and begins to see life than just his work, embracing life. He even realizes that he may be in love with her. The film's alright but the ending was sad. Charlize Theron did a good job in this. Recommend it but for me its a film you see once or if you are a fan of Charlize Theron.

hey! well, this movie was quite bitter sweet...i agree, sarah shoulda told nelson that she was dying...he seemed to be the type of guy who'd care, and stick by her side. and he seemed to care enough, to actually, stick by her side. they coulda gotten closer, and he coulda helped her though it all, i think that her way of leaving him was real blunt and cruel...well, not that harsh but still, she blind folded his eyes closed and ran off. like abandoning a puppy in a box. it was verrry sad. i cried. well, alittle. she shoulda told him what was wrong, and it woulda been better...in relationships u are supposed to tell your soulmate whats goin on...and spill. even though, they were in a 30 day agreement...nelson fell deeply in love w/her. and she looked as though, she did at least alittle bit. overall the movie confused me alot...and saddened me even more...Meano BAMM BEANO!
