Overview

Previously published in the 1950s as a comic book, Tales From the Crypt soon made its way to cable television in the early '90s starring famous actors and directed by top-notch talent. Overview

Previously published in the 1950s as a comic book, Tales From the Crypt soon made its way to cable television in the early '90s starring famous actors and directed by top-notch talent. The second in a planned series of movies, Tales From the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood is featured as a bare-bones disc courtesy of Image Entertainment (originally produced and distributed by Universal). Starring comedian Dennis Miller and supermodel Angie Everhart, this 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer looks excellent. Colors and detail are very sharp and clean, with black levels looking especially solid. Edge enhancement is kept to a minimum, and neither digital artifacting nor shimmer are spotted throughout the feature. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and sounds very good. The surround feature is often used aggressively during action or gore sequences, and neither dialogue nor effects suffer from any hiss or distortion. For a smaller horror title, Tales From the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood features a well-mixed 5.1 audio track. Sadly, with a superb transfer and a well-mixed audio track, apparently something had to suffer -- on this disc, it's the supplemental features. Image Entertainment made the decision to leave out all extra features, even a measly theatrical trailer. Fans of Tales From the Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood will be looking for blood due to this travesty, but should be placated by the nicely produced audio and video portions of the disc.
