The A-Team moved into the A. C. Nielsen Top 5 for its second season in 1983-84, defying critics who derided it as a "mindless" action show. There were explosions, car crashes, and lots of guns -- but no one ever got hurt. Fans understood that the cartoon-like violence was just plain fun, while the show’s primary draw was the unique chemistry among the odd quartet that was the A-Team: Col. John "Hannibal" Smith George Peppard; Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck Dirk Benedict; Sgt. Bosco Albert "B. A." Baracus Mr. T; and H. M. "Howlin' Mad" Murdock Dwight Schultz. This group of ex-Vietnam Special Forces members worked as soldiers of fortune, helping people who needed it. Those seeking the A-Team's assistance in Season 2 include: a nun Night Court's Markie Post being held by outlaws in "The Only Church in Town"; a Native American man whose horses are being threatened with slaughter in "When You Comin' Back, Range Rider?"; overworked migrant farmers in "Labor Pains"; and a pilot arrested for the cocaine stashed on his plane by an unscrupulous dealer in "In Plane Sight." "The White Ballot," a midseason episode, features the last appearance of Melinda Culea as A-Team associate Amy Allen, although her exit from the show is never clearly explained. Noted guest stars this season include Michael Ironside, Ghostbusters' Ernie Hudson, perpetual TV cop Dennis Franz, and Millennium's Lance Henriksen.
