This is a candy-coated version of the novel. Jim has become educated and speaks English more properly than the Queen. Huck is a mental midget. Pap is barely an annoyance, rather than the notorious drunkard. Above all else, the controversial "n-----" is full stricken from the dialogue (along with any sense of the colloquial craft), thereby bleaching this tale of any of Clemens' intended bit. In short, it's an insult.

Elijah Wood is perfect for the role of Huck, and the movie hits all the major parts of the book (except the ending which Twain himself later said he didn't like). Filmed on location in Mississippi on the river, it has the disney movie style but was made in time so that it could also show twain's characters as he wrote them, mainly a 10 year old boy smoking, swearing, and shooting a gun. Ultimately just like in the book, it is a story about Huck's heart and his friendship to Jim, with lots of adventure in between.

Although the movie didn't really follow the book, Elijah was perfect as well as Courtney Vance. Elijah Wood has a remarkable acting talent.

While this adaptation of Mark Twain's Huck Finn is most enjoyable, it does not quite hold true to the novel. All of the people in the movie have somehow already figured out that slavery is wrong. Unfortunately, that is not how the characters are portrayed in the novel. This version does include most of the large events in the novel, but it has been thoroughly edited to be palatable for the audiences of today. If you are looking for a movie that conveys Twain's original message, this adaptation would not serve you well. However, it has high entertainment value, and Huck, of course, is portrayed by the talented Elijah Wood, who has now had the pleasure of becoming two of the most beloved characters in literature.

If you're a fan of Elijah Wood your're going to love this movie. He does a fantastic job portraying the adventurous trouble-making Huck Finn. Though they strayed from the original story a lot, it is still one I would recommened. All the actors do fantastic jobs, and Elijah Wood portrayal will put you to tears.

Nothing! Elijah was spectacular! That sweet little innocent face that caused me to burst into tears when he was sobbing his poor little heart out when Jim was about to be hanged was perfect for the role of Huckleberry Finn, a young boy trying to help his friend, Jim, who is a runaway slave. Elijah was probably at his ultimate cutest, and Courtney B. Vance brought a lot of emotion and humor to the role of Jim, Huckleberry's slave friend. So why did I give this movie only 4 stars? Well, even though the acting was superb (especially little Elijah) the story was a bit off. For those of you who have read Mark Twain's original work, you'll know what the real story is like. You'll also see that they simplified the movie's story quite a lot, for some odd reason that we may never know. If they had stuck to the book (I'm a big fan of sticking to the book) then the movie would definitely have been given 5 well-deserved stars. I just wish they hadn't simplified the story. You HAVE to see Elijah in ''Huckleberry Finn''! I guarantee that you will cry!
