Overview

The new epic documentary The Beatles Liverpool: A Magical History Tour acts as a companion piece to such illuminating glimpses into the lives of the Fab Four as The Compleat Beatles and The Beatles: From the Beginning...to the End. But unlike those prior films, this effort approaches its subject from an unusual angle. It explores the Beatles via the famous borough of their childhoods. This program tours the Beatles' old haunts in Liverpool, including the legendary Cavern Club, the Strawberry Field orphanage, Penny Lane, and the houses in which the members of the Fab Four were raised. This five-and-a-half-hour film is jam-packed with interviews with those who knew and associated with John, Paul, George, and Ringo in the early years, such as the Mersey Beat founder, Bill Harry, initial manager Alan Williams, and their contemporary rock & roll musician Kingsize Taylor of the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany.

think ya know everything from the early days?

I am not a super hardcore beatles fan, but I really enjoyed this. you start watching, thinking its going to be dull, then you get sucked in. They go around talking about places in liverpool like johns house, the cavern ect. and its very casual, and depending on where they are, different people from the past would be there, like the first Beatles manager, or Colin from the quarrymen (i didn't know they have CD's out). It is not one of those shiny, slick documentaries, you have Beatle experts walking around liverpool, and showing you in detail famous places like Penny Lane, or Johns house. I don't really care about Johns house, but the facts discussed are interesting. Driving back and forth on Penny Lane was interesting. Most of the things in the song were not on Penny Lane but Allerton ave. It's a great travelogue. Perfect. I feel like I am there, and will watch this over and over. Liverpool is a very interesting city. Jay
