The Best Man

Overview

In this romantic comedy, a writer finds out the hard way about the consequences of walking a fine line between fiction and real life. Harper is suffering a worse case of publication-day jitters than most authors, and with good reason: much of his book has been drawn from real life, and he's afraid that his friends and family ...

Harper Taye Diggs is an author whose first novel is soon to be published, just as he's been asked to be Best Man at the wedding of his friends Lance Morris Chestnut and Mia Monica Calhoun. Harper is suffering a worse case of publication-day jitters than most authors, and with good reason: much of his book has been drawn from real life, and he's afraid that his friends and family will spot the sometimes unflattering literary versions of themselves. What's worse, Mia and Harper had a fling years ago, and their affair made it into the book; Lance doesn't know, and Harper would just as soon he didn't find out before the wedding. But one of the bridesmaids, Jordan Nia Long, has gotten hold of an advance copy of the book. Since Jordan works as a television journalist and devotes her life to digging up dirt on people, Harper is convinced that she'll spill the beans and spoil his friends' big day. The Best Man was the debut film for writer/director Malcolm D. Lee; Spike Lee served as producer.

    Outstanding Movie!!!

"The Best Man" is a movie beautifully shot, showed how successful black folks are, and how we love to hear about the romances of a wedding. The best movie to just relax and relate to. Everyone of the actors or actresses really held their game tight. Just simply, a classic movie of 1999.

    Awesome!

I am a white woman and this is about African American people, but I feel that any single late 20 something, early 30 something male or female can relate to this. It is about a group of old schoolmates from college and the different things that they have accomplished or been through since school and how noone has really changed at all. The player is still playing, the book worm is still all about education, the snob is the same, the workaholic is buried deeper than ever. But the two who did change are the couple that gets married. This movie makes one reflect on themselves and which person they are like and where one is in life. At least it did so for me. I love this movie so much, that i have rented it repeatedly. Everytime that I go to buy it in a store, I cannot find it. So, I am glad to find it here and now I will purchase it! Dana No.VA
