The Best of the Chris Rock Show -- Vol. 2's lone extra feature is an extensive biography of Chris Rock that rivals the best of its type on any release. It offers a decent amount of information on his recent films like Nurse Betty and Down to Earth. The material covers his wide array of comic endeavors throughout his impressive career, including the HBO special Bring the Pain. It also describes his book and the HBO show, with interesting material provided on each subject. Considering its television origins, the full-frame transfer on this disc works nicely with no noticeable defects of any kind. The production levels don't match a feature film, so the expected quality is lower than the usual release. However, this transfer still contains decent colors and a clear picture to present the sketches in an impressive manner. Once again, the sound quality is not expected to be unbelievable because the show comes from HBO. However, the 2.0-channel Dolby Surround transfer showcases the comedy in fine form, with understandable dialogue throughout the production. While there's a limited amount of complexity and force on this track, it works effectively for this release and has no major shortcomings.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Jason Bergenfeld
After breaking in as a regular on Saturday Night Live 1990-1993, comedian Chris Rock knocked around a bit, eventually drawing attention during the 1996 presidential campaign with segments on Comedy Central's Politically Incorrect. HBO then came calling, and in 1997 The Chris Rock Show took off, affording the funnyman a platform to explore race relations and police brutality from a black perspective. Rock carved out a politically provocative comic niche, and he now stands at the forefront of working comedians, treating social issues in the tradition of Richard Pryor and Dick Gregory. The Best of the Chris Rock Show, Vol. 2 culls more of the funniest bits from the comedian's Emmy-winning show, including the Pamplona-inspired "Running of the Cops" and his own variation of the classic man-on-the-street interviews. Whether fighting in South Carolina to change the stars of the Confederate flag to the stars of the WB Network, or learning from professional boxers why white people can't fight, Rock lets his social criticism speak -- and laugh -- for itself. The program's hilarious high point comes when the comic puts all his strength and effort into having incarcerated singer Bobby Brown released from a Florida jail -- a classic protest you have to see to believe. Adding to the fun, the DVD edition features an additional 29 minutes of Rock's take on the HBO show Taxicab Confessions, as Rock, disguised as a New York City cabbie, manages to freak out unsuspecting fares with faux-intoxication and fears of a mouse on the loose in the backseat.

    Absolutely The Best

This is really 'The Best'. I was laughing for hours. I keep this DVD out at all times, as when friends and family come over they always say, 'Throw in that Chris Rock!' It remains funny no matter how many times you see it.
