These loving creatures inhabit a realm in the clouds called Care-A-Lot, and their purpose in life is to get the humans down below to share their good feelings with each other. They watch over human children with large telescopes and help those children who need help. The Care Bears have their work cut out for them, because Nicolas, a lonely magician's assistant, is about to fall under the evil influence of a bad spirit who lives in an ancient magic book -- it seems Nicolas will do just about anything for friends. Aside from Nicolas, Kim Cree Summer and Jason Sunny Besen Thracher are in trouble because they are starting not to trust people after suffering many disappointments. Mickey Rooney is the voice of Mr. Cherrywood, the owner of an orphanage.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Children of the ‘80s and pop culture fans in general will delight in this DVD release of the animated movie inspired by the American Greeting Card phenomenon. The Care Bears live in the heavenly paradise known as Care-a-Lot. When the Bears aren't frolicking on clouds or sliding down rainbows, they are helping children on earth get in touch with their feelings. It doesn't take them long to work their magic on Kim and Jason, two children whose parents "went away." But Nicholas, a magician's assistant, is another story. He inadvertently unleashes an evil spirit that lays waste to Care-a-Lot and threatens to wipe out all feelings. The indomitable Bears inspire a change of heart with the help of the Care Bear Cousins, who live in the Forest of Feelings. Carole King sings the lilting theme song, with additional ditties by John Sebastian. Mickey Rooney provides the voice of Mr. Cherrywood, who relates the story of Nicholas (the surprise ending may cause a few sniffles). Now that the once ubiquitous Care Bears merchandise has long since been relegated to garage sales and eBay, this film can be enjoyed on its own considerable merits. Grumpy Bears need not apply!

    Great Family Movie

I grew up watching this movie and now so do my nieces. The oldest is 2 1/2 and the youngest is almost 1, and they love watching Care Bears. Plus it's an old favorite of ours, so it's fun for all.
