Overview

This video features a live performance of The Cars, made during their only tour of Europe. Filmed in 1979, the concert took place in Germany, and was shot at Radio Bremen Studios for the German television show Musikladen. Music from the band's first two albums are showcased, including signature tunes like "Let the Good Times Roll," and "Don't Cha Stop." Another highlight is the inclusion of "Take What You Want," which was never recorded for album release, but was a favorite on their American concert tours. The DVD version of the video also contains a lengthy interview with all five band members, together for the first time in 13 year. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Elsie St. Leger
The Cars, the new wave band that broke in Boston in 1977 before hitting the scene the following year, sold more records than any other new wave group, including Talking Heads. The Bean Town quintet -- guitarist/lead vocalist Ric Ocasek, bassist/lead vocalist Ben Orr, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer Dave Robinson -- enjoyed a string of hits in the late '70s and early '80s, when songs such as "My Best Friend's Girl," "You Might Think," "Just What I Needed" and "Shake It Up" rode high on Billboard's pop charts. Live -- The Cars catches the band in Berman, Germany, in 1978, during Ocasek & Co.'s only European tour. The band culls tunes from its first album, 1978's The Cars, offering straight-ahead, hard-hitting versions of "Good Times Roll," "Bye Bye Love" and "You're All I've Got Tonight." Dropped into the set is "Candy-O," the title track from the band's second album, which wouldn't be released until summer 1979, and "Take What You Want," a tune never before commercially available. Altogether, it's an essential compilation of a landmark band.
