Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Over the past two seasons, Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) has slowly formed one of the most respected units in the L.A. police department, the Priority Homicide Division. Tasked by her boss, Assistant Police Chief Will Pope (J. K. Simmons), with investigating highly sensitive cases (and the occasional celebrity or two), the PHD is made up of Sgt David Gabriel (Corey Reynolds), the fiercely loyal go-to man; Det. Lt. Provenza (G. W. Bailey), and Det. Andy Flynn (Anthony John Denison), the old-timers who have seen it all; Det. Lt. Mike Tao (Michael Paul Chan), the computer tech; the gruff but likeable Det. Julio Sanchez (Raymond Cruz); the tough Det. Irene Daniels (Gina Ravera); and Buzz Watson (Philip Keene), resident gadget geek. Like the PHD, The Closer has improved with a year's seasoning. Sedgwick has always been likable as Brenda -- despite her many quirks and relationship issues with boyfriend Fritz (Jon Tenney) -- but previous seasons had us guessing the culprit in each episode before the first commercial break. This season found the creative team in much improved form with regard to the program's procedural underpinnings. Among the many standout episodes are "Homewrecker," "Saving Face," and the heart-stopping "Manhunt." But the best of the season by far is the harrowing "Ruby," in which a young girl is kidnapped and the squad must race against the clock to rescue her. The ending is refreshingly unexpected. Along with stronger scripts this season are the many standout guest stars, including Orson Bean, French Stewart, Robert Picardo, S. Epatha Merkerson, and John Wesley Shipp, as well as Frances Sternhagen and Barry Corbin as Brenda's parents.

Another excellent season worth owning and watching!

The characters, the plot, the acting, the seriousness of the crimes and the occasional perfectly placed comic relief make every episode uniquely special.

    Another good season

The team is back. The shows are intriguing and the acting is fabulous. What gives this series its vibe is the interaction of the lives of the performers as they solve baffling and often disturbing crimes.

    Gets better every season

Seasons 1 suffered slightly due to predictable plotting. As each season of this show goes on, the scripting gets tighter, making the mysteries more difficult to guess. Kyra Sedgwick portrays a character that many feel is love her or hate her: if you don't like her accent, stop watching right away.
