Overview

After 20 years with London's Metropolitan Police, Clare Blake (Amanda Burton) has reached the pinnacle of her profession. She's New Scotland Yard's highest-ranking female officer, the Serious Crime Group commander, and head of the Murder Review Team. The pressure is intense, and so is the security. Ambitious but reckless, Blake lets her personal life bleed into her career. She defies convention, risks her reputation, and always gets too close to her cases. Each misstep she makes pleases DCI Mike Hedges (Matthew Marsh), a shifty, self-interested colleague with a grudge to settle. And he's not the only person who wants to bring her down. From award-winning writer Lynda La Plante, this compelling thriller delivers gritty stories, intricate plot twists, and a strong, complex female lead. This set contains four mysteries that originally aired on Britain's ITV: "Entrapment" (February 16, 2003); "Virus" (January 10, 2005); "Blackdog" (January 17, 2005); and "Blacklight" (March 27, 2006).

I enjoyed this very much, and I hope Series 2 comes out soon. I can't tell you what reckless thing the Commander does because it would spoil the plot for you, but it certainly keeps you interested -- and her in trouble for several episodes. Very believable police drama, and although not a classic like Prime Suspect, it is in its way equally engrossing.

This is another really entertaining effort by Linda LaPlante. Amanda Burton is wonderful as the main character; she is able to annoy and delight. She is smart and calculating and flawed, but not over the top. The mysteries are quality and the acting as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this set and have gotten the same response from friends who have viewed it on my recommendation.
