I didn't know what to expect when I went to see this film the first time in the theater. (It's so common for a sequel - if you want to call this that - to not be nearly as well done as the original.) This film FAR outshone its predecessor! It was better in every way, and that's quite an amazing feat, considering how good "Batman Begins" was. (I loved the review by the "Most Helpful Positive!" He/she hit it right on the head: two lousy things were cleared up in Dark Knight. No more Katie Holmes! That in itself is worth a happy dance. And much more Gary Oldman! Another happy dance. Seriously though, when it looked liked Jim Gordan had been killed I said "I'm never watching this movie again." Then he crept up on the Joker and saved the day - that was the best moment to me.) The preformances were outstanding, and the way the editors handled such a huge cast of characters was perfect. We saw each character frequently enough to remember exactly what was going on with them, but infrequently enough so that we could keep up with what everyone was doing. The pacing throughout was fantastic. Maggie was a great replacement for Katie, and she was a much more believeable DA. To conclude, this movie is not one to be missed, by anyone. (That means people who like Batman or don't like him!) I watched it four times at the theater and once so far on DVD and I still haven't had enough!

I loved "Batman Begins" but had two complaints: 1) Katie Holmes. She is the world's second worst actress (the first being Kirsten Dunst), and she really took the show down. Her replacement was ten times better. 2) Gary Oldman's part, Jim Gorgan, wasn't NEARLY big enough! Gary Oldman is by far the best actor in these films (he's British, so of course) and his part in "Dark Knight" was, in fact, much bigger. And yes, Heath Ledger was every bit as good as he was hyped to be. I still don't like Christian Bale (AT ALL) but Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine made up for him. And did I mention Gary Oldman?! Anyway, a fantastic movie. Not to be missed. By far the best super hero movie of the summer.

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.ok so i waited to see what the "hype" was all about... and i have to say i was let down... not only did this movie drag on but the plot was weak... the action was maybe a good 28 min all together in the movie... batman sounded like he needed a ricola they was he talked... but i have to give credit were its due... Heath Ledger did an AMAZING job as the joker... he was wicked awesome and did a great job playing a sick and twisted character, the scene where he walks out the hospitol and the remote didnt work he just looked so crazy and the way he walked and talked... really showed how great as an actor he was, he will be missed... but all in all it was eh ok nothing great i began to get bored twards the end of the movie... sction wasnt what i thought drama was good.. the only reason why this movie went ape is b/c Heath died... sad but true...

One of the best movies in my lifetime, however short/long that may be. Ledger stole the show, but Bale was strong, and what can you say about the classic Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine? Maggie was a little weak, but still believable. Loved it loved it loved it. Was 7 times seeing it enough? Never!

When I first saw the trailers from the computer or on TV, obviously it was going to be good. And of course RIP Heath Ledger. The Joker is one of my favorite villian characters. Plus I liked the Batman Animated series that was on back in the 90s. I'll be honest there should be no comparison to the Joker in the Tim Burton film and this. Both are good in their own way so there shouldn't be a contest of sorts. Just let it go. Sorry. Moving on we have the Dark Knight picking up where Batman Begins left off where Bruce as Batman is getting some unwanted help and must face his biggest villian yet who's just plain crazy called The Joker (played very convincingly by Heath Ledger). And of course must come to terms with whether the city accepts Batman and of course for Bruce whether or not if he can let go of Rachel (this time played by Maggie) who's dating Harvey Dent who obviously if you seen the animated cartoon or read the comics you know what his fate becomes. The Joker then calls out to Batman through threats and such. There were some awkward yet you couldn't help but laugh moments or the should i laugh or not kinds of moments. The opening has to be one of the best that I've seen next to the X2 X-Men United one. Christian Bale was as usual (not that that's a bad thing) was great, Heath was even better, Aaron was as well really good and Gary Oldman was terrific. Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman were also good too. Christopher Nolan does a great job with the directing and the camera work was pretty good. There are some good suspense moments and at times it felt a little creepy. Its like the film pulls you in and when its done you forget that you're watching a movie. At least that's how I felt when I saw it in the theater. So in conclusion, SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!

As you may have already heard Heath Ledger plays the joker, this is not the joker that you have read about in the comics or have seen in the animated series. This joker is played with such realism that it's creepy; this is the best joker anyone has ever portrayed. You need a great villain to make a great hero and not only do you have Heath Ledger as the Joker but you get to see the birth of Two face aka Harvey Dent. Now I know some people did not like Katie Holmes in the first movie but I would loved to have seen her in this move. Watch it and you will now why I say that. I recommend this movie for any action fan or comic books but please be careful; this movie is not for the young.

When you set a story in a pre-established universe, a place where characters have already been built for you, you have to wow your audiences with an dynamic plot, or fancy effects, or crazy action. Or, you could be Christopher Nolan, and rewrite the characters, and pull amazing performances out of you cast and design visuals that take our breath away. We all know The Joker as a slighty loony guy who spews bad puns, uses lethally modified joke shop toys, and dresses in a purple suit; and Batman, our protector, impossibly strong and utterly invincible, driven unendingly by his past to seek justice for all. Right? Thought so. This movie paints a completely new version. Heath Ledger (who won an Oscar for this role) plays a new Joker, as close to the brink of madness as one can be, but seems to dance along the edge of the maw gleefully, who seems darker and more terrifying than any villain in recent movie history (sorry, Javier Bardim, but you just didn't chill me the way Ledger did). And Christopher Bale plays an all too vulnerable hero, both physically and mentally, doubting his methods and his abilities. The play between them is priceless, and all set on an incredible backdrop of a city in fearful thrall of this clash.

I have to admit, I thought Batman begins was far better, in terms of story, setting, atmosphere and dare I say, "comic book" appeal. Christian Bale is excellent in the lead, as of course are Michael Cain and Morgan Freeman. Aaron Eckerdt does a wonderful job ad DA Harvey Dent...then there is Heath. I really was expecting this over the top performance, sorta a cross between Romero and Nicholson. What I discovered was a very introspective, dark character and to that extend I was not prepared. The term "Joker" applies funny, he was anything but. In the long run, I felt the movie was too long, too many sub-plots and just not on par with Batman Begins. I was disappointed.

As the movie spins more and more out of control toward total chaos, the tension ratchets up to an all but unbearable degree. For me, the climax of the movie comes as Batman mounts his Batpod, his armored motorcycle, and chases the Joker through Gotham. From this point on, the film becomes frantic, terrifying, intense, and mesmerizing. <BR/><BR/>The whole city of Gotham is turned on its head in anarchy, as is the Joker himself finally, by Batman when he suspends the Joker from a cable upside down from a skyscraper in the dead of night. The proponent of chaos, the Joker, ends up hanging upside down, spinning and laughing maniacally in space, without any sense of direction--the perfect ending image for the nihilistic Joker.<BR/><BR/>Heath Ledger is nothing short of brilliant with his chilling portrayal of the maleficent, unhinged Joker. He cringes and leaps about like a dynamic psychotic fiend, propelling the nonstop action farther and farther into the abyss--from which there is no escape without Batman, the reluctant hero crippled by self-doubt.<BR/><BR/>This is the best comic-book movie I've ever seen. This film has it all: superior special effects; great acting; ingenious script; and most of all -- the best performance of a comic villain EVER. Right off the bat, the first scene explodes with violence and excitement, introducing the audience to the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. From then on Batman must deal with his problems like the love he still feels for Rachel (his one time girlfriend) and maintaining order in the Gotham's constant hostile enviroment. Director Christopher Nolan outdid himself with this movie and really raised the stakes for not only comic book movies -- but for sequels in general. With the unfortuante passing of the promising Ledger, his death gave The Dark Knight an added frenzy surrounding the release date, and furthermore, propelled the Joker character into untouchable status, as nobody will probably ever be able to perfect such an unforgettable villain like that in future Batman films, let alone all comic book antagonists. An absolute must own.

When I saw this in the theatre I had goose bumps and was even a little choked up at some parts. Just knowing everything that went into the making of it, plus the loss of the amazing and talented Heath Ledger! The DVD brought me right back and is a movie I never get sick of watching. The second disc is so cool and very informative on the "Making Of". It was acutally really fun to learn about things like how the score was created or Christian Bales' bat suit. I think finding out about those kinds of things on a movie like this just adds to the whole experience and makes you feel like a part of it, or like it isn't so far away, something everyone can feel like they can connect with it.

But while I was watching this, the movie kept me sitting on the edge of my seat and really watching it. The director was really awesome and he made the movie really enjoyable. I also want to thank him for picking out the BEST Joker in the whole world! Now I watch this movie as many times as I can.

This was indeed a very good movie. I saw it opening weekend and enjoyed it very much. The action is riveting and deaths caustic to one's soul. I loved it and I believe it is a great addition to the batman series. Rest in peace Heath Ledger!!!!

I enjoyed the movie, and thought the overall performances and message was good. My one problem was with Ledger. Hear me out. I thought Ledger's performance was excellent. Very real, and very scary. However, his character, although portrayed very well, is not the Joker. Maybe it's me. I found him frightening, and insane, but he wasn't funny. The Joker is supposed to be funny as well as sick. Ledger did a great job, he played a great psychopath, it just wasn't the Joker. That being said, it was a great movie, and I'll buy it on DVD, but it certainly wasn't the greatest movie ever. Hopefully, Nolan comes back to do a 3rd. Now where's the Green Lantern movie?

My second mistake was sitting there and watching this movie and not asking for a refund. Same stupid effects and a boring story line. It was one of those movies that takes 2 hours for something to happen, and then when it does you were sorry it did. I kept thinking through out the movie that it would end shortly and then another hour of nothing would happen. If you really wish to see this movie wait until someone else buys it and go watch it at there house. You can laugh at them for wasting their money.

I saw this film 5 times in the theater. It, in my opinion, surpassed Batman Begins. Don't get me wrong, Batman Begins was fantastic. Thank God for Christopher Nolan. He is an awesome director. If it weren't for him, the Batman franchise would be 6 feet under. Heath Ledger was the perfect choice to play the joker. No one else could fill the part any better. It's a good thing they didn't have Katie Holmes reprise the role of Rachel Dawes. She was ok, but not great. Glad that they had Two-Face make an appearance. I don't think having that villian by himself in a Batman movie would make it as good. It was very good to see him/joker show up later in the film. Christian Bale, obviously, is the perfect actor to play Bruce Wayne/Batman. He's been the better choice of all past actors lucky enough to take on the role. It's very sad to realize Heath Ledger is no longer alive. I was hoping to see more exploration with the joker in a future film. This movie will make a perfect Christmas gift this year.
