Sealed in manufacturer's shrinkwrap~Fast shipping. Part John Grisham thriller and part Rosemary's Baby, Devil's Advocate is a sharp and compelling film that comes to life thanks ... to an energetic performance from Al Pacino. While most fictional films concerning temptation and religion are often inane and unrealistic, the playfully slick script by Tony Gilroy and Jonathan Lemkin makes this particular outing both thought-provoking and engaging. Keanu Reeves may be dwarfed by Pacino's acting skill, but he gives an astonishingly decent performance. Reeves is the straight man of the narrative, and proves that he can handle roles that require him to deliver dialogue. The film explores themes like temptation, sexual depravity, and vanity, while never allowing special effects to become the main focus of the story, and the fantastical climax, set to the Frank Sinatra version of "It Happened in Monterey" is part camp, part thriller, and part soap opera. It is the jolting finale to a surreal and enticing film that takes chances and truly raises some hell. Thank you for your consideration. Read more Show Less

Good movie, but why ruin it

First off I thought that it was a good movie with exciting twists and turns and even the acting was above par for Keanu The problem that I have is that it isn't real, thats right it isn't real. It was all just a dream that Keanu has from time to time in the bathroom? So it sorta sucks when you think about that you watcha movie for a couple of hours and realize it was all for not. What a crock. Al Pacino overacted but was still good in his role as the devil. Worth a watch but you may have mixed feelings about the end

    Profound and Entertaining

Kevin Lomax feels really good about himself. He's a young southern lawyer who has never lost a case. So when he's offered to join a big firm in NYC, he jumps at the oppurtunity. But as he becomes more successful and involved in his work, he becomes selfish and estranged from his wife and family, and slowly realizes he's become.. the devil's advocate.... Al Pacino with another brilliant performance in this spooky tale which leaves the viewer with a very important life lesson.

    DVD packaging misleading

This movie was an exquisite supernatural thriller - something that is rare to find anymore. After watching the VHS version numerous times, I purchased this DVD for my husband. And this alone dropped my rating to four stars. The outer packaging promises 30 minutes of deleted scenes - my primary incentive for making the purchase. After opening the item, the inside sleeve lists ''extended'' footage segments, during which Director Taylor Hackford provides a non-stop blustering narration. Viewers can watch the actors going through their scenes during filming, but you never hear the accompanying lines. While enjoyable in the separate film narration (you actually get the entire movie without narration to see also), Hackford's incessant chatter here is simply annoying. We were highly disappointed to find that there are no additional scenes to watch at all. To add insult to injury, throughout the separate film narration, Taylor himself advises viewers to pay attention at key points during the (absent) deleted scenes. If you enjoy the additional footage that make DVDs such an attractive purchase, don't buy this one. It is not what it's represented to be.

    Brilliant!

This Movie you just wanna watch again and again. Even Keanu Reeves is watchable in it. I don't need to say anything about Pacino really.
