Overview

Hazzard County's two rowdiest siblings are back and stirring up more mischief than ever in this prequel to the 2005 comedy adventure that explores the origins of the General Lee while finding out just how Bo Jonathan Bennett and Luke Duke Randy Wayne first incurred the wrath of bumbling greedy businessman Boss Hogg Christopher McDonald. Hogg is set to foreclose on Uncle Jesse's Willie Nelson farm, and in order to save their crusty kin from financial ruin Bo and Luke agree to deliver his potent brand of moonshine to Hazzard County's thirstiest residents. Unfortunately for Bo and Luke, the nefarious Boss Hogg doesn't take kindly to the newly arrived competition. Subsequently thrown in jail and sentenced to sweat out the remainder of the summer on work detail, the crafty Duke boys enlist the aid of sexy cousin Daisy April Scott in outrunning the car with the star and making Boss Hogg's life unbearable through a series of outrageous schemes.

The Beginning or Perhaps The End

As for it being a new Dukes adventure, NOT SO! More of the same "save the farm" high-jinks by new faces, with the exception of Willie Nelson recast as Uncle Jesse. There is a whole new twist on the birth of the General Lee, oddly it delivers a great one-liner by Bo as it is being pulled from a pond. But if you are a Dukes of Hazzard fan like me, this is what entertains us. We don't care much about previous film experience of the actors or over duplication of the plots. Shucks, just give us some jump and chase scenes with the General and we are in our best homegrown, county boy (or girl) heaven. Unfortunately the language and some scenes might be too strong for some viewers. But that is why the ratings are provided on the DVD box. Keep the little Dukes and Dukettes away from this one. I have seen three versions so far, the mildly edited Premier on television, the Un-rated and the (R)rated versions. The new Daisy Duke delivers a visual knock-out punch in the later half of the film and the producers apparently are banking on that stimulus. I do recommend this film for all Dukes of Hazzard fans, not so sure it will increase the ranks on it's own merits but it will certainly provide some variety in between the re-runs and the DVD box sets we probably all have and watch. But I'll take any new Dukes of Hazzard film anyway or anytime.
