    Fighting Seabees

Excellent Excellent Movie. My Dad was a Seabee during WWII and went to the South Pacific for 14 months. This movie made me remember all of the things he told us about his 14 month stay there. I love a good John Wayne movie and this is the frosting on the cake.

    A Different Drummer

Thoroughly enjoyed viewing the establishing of the Seabees. The comraderie, pitfalls for not following orders and rewards for team work and discipline were well made. It was great fun to see many of the classic character actors in this nostalgic patriotic piece. Though the movie lacked the graphic details of war, I've seen more than enough through the photos my father(one of the Navy Band snare drummers in this movie and a Seabee in the South Pacific after the filming of this movie) snapped while in New Guinea and the Philippines. The romantic trio was a bit hokey, but the story of the sacrifices, some quite unnecessary, was aptly put. The original version is fine, but I look forward to seeing the anniversary edition on DVD with all the extra features.
