The cover of this one pretty much says it all: The Four Complete Historic Ed Sullivan Shows Featuring the Beatles and other artists…." This is a time capsule-worthy collection, capturing a cultural epiphany in the form of four raw hours of mid-sixties television programming. The four lads from Liverpool -- John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr -- perform 20 songs over the course of the four shows, popping up between Sullivan's regular parade of comics, ...

Barnes & Noble
The cover of this one pretty much says it all: The Four Complete Historic Ed Sullivan Shows Featuring the Beatles and other artists…." This is a time capsule-worthy collection, capturing a cultural epiphany in the form of four raw hours of mid-sixties television programming. The four lads from Liverpool -- John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr -- perform 20 songs over the course of the four shows, popping up between Sullivan's regular parade of comics, magicians, acrobats, and others, setting off joyous screams in the audience with each appearance. In comics' parlance, these guys killed. Sullivan, whose Sunday night program (broadcast live from the Broadway theater that would later become home to David Letterman's Late Show), invited the band back two weeks in a row after its explosive debut on the February 9, 1964 show. The fourth episode, telecast some 18 months later, finds the quartet comfortably riding the crest of Beatlemania, more self-aware than in the first broadcasts, and no less delightful. No doubt, someone must have suggested adding commentary tracks and other analytical materials to this two-disc release. It's perhaps just as well that the producers resisted this suggestion, as the performances speak for themselves. Besides, what could commentary possibly add to the comic brilliance of Marty Allen & Steve Rossi?
Rolling Stone - Rob Sheffield
You don't watch for the historic value -- you watch because you scream and shake when they hit those oooohs in "She Loves You."

So cool to see the 2-bit acts on these shows with these guys who were really nothing at the time but changed EVERYTHING pertaining to the youth of the day.

Beatles' magic showcased on Ed Sullivan Show

It¿s not a time machine, but it¿s close. Good Times Video has released a beautiful 240-minute collection featuring the complete telecast (including vintage commercials) of all four episodes of ¿The Ed Sullivan Show¿ that featured live appearances from the Beatles. Kicking off with the historic live program aired before 73 million viewers on Feb. 9, 1964 (that was 40 percent of the nation¿s population), the quality of the material is surprisingly good. Watching John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr deliver rousing performances of ¿All My Loving,¿ ¿She Loves You¿ and ¿I Want to Hold Your Hand¿ is still thrilling, and it¿s equally fun to watch the audience go wild while Ed Sullivan tries to keep things on track throughout the shows. The Beatles¿ final performance on the show in September 1965 boasted top-notch performances of ¿Ticket to Ride,¿ ¿Help!¿ and McCartney performing a beautiful solo rendition of ¿Yesterday.¿ In all, the lads perform 20 songs over the course of the four shows; this time capsule-ready 2-disc collection is essential.
