Overview

The third season of The Golden Girls continues to chronicle the adventures of four over-50 ladies who lived under the same Miami roof: widows Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan) and Rose Nylund (Betty White), divorcée Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), and Dorothy's shamelessly outspoken mother, Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty). Season three opens with one of the series' many flashback episodes, "One for the Money," featuring Lynnie Greene in her recurring role as young Dorothy. The later episode "Blanche's Little Girl" marks the first series appearance of Blanche's daughter Rebecca, played this season by Shawn Schepps; "My Father, My Brother" finds comedian Bill Dana in the role of Sophia's brother Angelo, a priest; in "Mixed Blessing," Dorothy's son Michael (Scott Jacoby) announces his engagement to a black woman -- which wouldn't bother Dorothy so much were it not for the fact that the woman is 20 years Michael's senior; and in another flashback show, "Mother's Day," viewers are given their one and only glimpse at Blanche's late mother, Margaret, played by Helen Kleeb. In other episodes, Rose does her part for world peace by writing letters to Reagan and Gorbachev (and guess which one of the two world leaders responds!); and McLean Stevenson guest stars as Ted Zbornak, brother of Dorothy's redoubtable ex-husband, Stan (Herb Edelman). Rated the fourth most popular TV series in America during its third season, The Golden Girls also did all right by itself at Emmy award time, with Bea Arthur and Estelle Getty both winning statuettes.

    Season 3 finally!

What could be better than seeing 4 fiesty, zaney, over-the-hill women on tv everyday? Having them on DVD to watch whenever you want! 4 Miami women share a house, stories and a lot of cheesecake in this sitcom from the 1980's and early 1990's. This is quite possibly the best cast of a sitcom of all time with Estelle Getty, Bea Arthur, Betty White and Rue McClanahan. All four are vetran actors and know everything about delivering lines and timing. Season 3, is the season where the characters are set and all the kinks have been worked out. In my opinion, this is the start of when it really gets good. Golden Girls is a tv show that is good for the whole family yet very original and does touch on some choice topics that were very controversial back in the day. Bring the Girls into your life today and smiles, if not all out laughing, are all but gauranteed!

    funny, funny, funny

This is a funny series and season 3 is among one of the very best. Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue and Estelle worked so well together. The best ep is the "Three on a Couch" one.

    Best Sitcom In Years

The third season of The Golden Girls is filled with a mixture of hilarity, tenderness and drama. The writers have created episodes that will fill you with laughter, as well as touching the heart. The season opens with a moving and tragic episode, yet of course contains great wit to dilute the seriousness. Sophia meets an elderly man on the boardwalk and befriends him. She soons learns that he has Allzeimer's. Episode 4 is the complete antithesis. The girls hire a maid, and when they fire her, weird things begin to occur. This episode induces belly laughs. For fans of The Golden Girls, season 3 is a must.

Most of the episodes are hilarious and have th best moments ever

Third season nothing knew except hilarious moments. Fave eps in this season are, one for the money (rose was insane when she did her solo dance thing), bringing up baby, nothing to fear but fear itself, three on a couch, golden moments 1 and 2, larceny and old lace, rose's big adventure, mister terrific, and mother's day (what rose did for that woman was really sweet and thoughtful of her).

    A Big Golden Girl Fan

"The Golden Girls" has to be the funniest show ever created. It tought women in their 50's, that there is life life after the kids are grown and out of the house. They tought us that even though we may age, life is like fine wine.... The older we get, the better we are. The Golden Girls are funny, thoughtful, intelligent, bright, and sensual. I want the thank the staff and the crew and the actress who put on such a good show. And thanks for letting us "older" women know that there is a new life waiting for us after everything is said and done.
